I deleted the app but not my account. I checked it sometimes on my laptop but I haven't in a long time. I do miss a lot about it, and Threads hasn't made any updates I was hoping for. But it's been ruined so much, I don't want to go back. I miss things like sports updates, politics (not what's there now), and the people I follow there but aren't anywhere else.
I still check Twitter daily, but like a lot of you my usage has gone way down. A lot of my best professional learning was happening there right before the Musk takeover, and it's so frustrating to see how fragmented that PLN has become over various other platforms. Right now I'm liking Bluesky more than anything else, but that's partly because Threads doesn't have a browser option. I rarely use social media on my phone, but my laptop is a different story.

Threads launched the browser version a couple of weeks ago.
Only to follow tropical events. Some of the hurricane hunters and meteorologists use it to post the models ahead of the NHC and my anxious self needs to know every possible scenario. Other than that, no because it’s bad. I tried to delete my account several times after it was bought it but it would not let me. Haven’t tried again.

Now I feel technology challenged. When I go to threads.net, it only gives me the option to get the app, not see anything. Even when I follow the link from an article talking about the browser version being available.
Yes. But my “usage” is completely different from what it used to be.
I was (pre-idiot takeover) a very heavy user. It was great for my job and my own professional visibility. Some of my best colleagues I met via the platform. I freaking did research on the damn thing and have a couple published journal articles on it.
Now? I refuse to post anything to it. I lurk and scroll. The reasons I haven’t ditched it completely? 1. So many of my colleagues/work orgs still use it, so I follow them via a list. 2. A lot of my students/former students still use it, so I follow what they are up to via a list. 3. Weather alerts specific to my area I get push notifications for.
The lists are for my own benefit. While the platform still counts me as a user, having those mean I can at least avoid the main feed, which is just disgusting.
I wish more of my colleagues and students would make it over to BlueSky.
Yes, but mainly to follow a few politicians and news outlets that post about what's going on in the British Gov't that isn't being posted to most mainstream news outlets. I don't post a lot on there and I go on it a lot less.

No. I still have an account but haven’t logged in in a long while. It’s such a bummer cause I made great connections on there, lots of Black doctors and academics I would have never met. I used my account mostly for advocacy after doing a leadership training course specific to the work I do and I found it was a great tool. I was even interviewed on msnbc after 1 of my tweets and got done writing gigs cause of Twitter.
I’ve noticed some advocates now seem to use IG for more educational/advocacy type posts but I just have no desire now. Twitter seemed much easier to get a thought out quickly and much easier to be interactive.
I used it for work sporadically (I'm a program manager), but after the Musk debacle, I bailed. I am trying to use Insta for the same purpose, but it's just not the same and I can't get into a good rhythm.
What is the new platform I'm hearing about--the one with no algorithms and you can just see what your circle posts w/o all the sponsored crap and "things you might be interested in"? I was seeing ads on TV for it towards the end of the summer and can't remember what the hell the name of it was.

In case anyone else was wondering, I figured it out: it won't let me use an Android browser unless I force it to desktop mode. Sneaky.
Still not sure if I want to get an Insta account and get sucked in to something else.
I deleted the app, and moved to Threads. I also have a Spoutable account, but I don't check that as often (but I should). I still don't post anything, but I've cut the twitter cord completely. I really wish there was a consensus as to what platform was next in line, so our government accounts could ditch twitter. I hate that the White House, POTUS, and VP still "have" to use it. I feel like if they bailed, a LOT of people would follow their lead.
Yes, although my usage is less it’s consistent. I make liberal use of the block and mute buttons, so my feed is pretty pleasant. I try and keep other social media like IG for people I know and less for public accounts.

I have never tweeted. I think I might have started an account but I don’t actually remember because I have never *actively* used the account. I never just randomly go on Twitter and scroll and I don’t even know if I am following anyone. I DO click on links that you guys post here if it’s related to a current topic we are discussing and read the thread. The links only work for me about 50% of the time, sometimes they just come up blank. So is clicking on a link that takes me to Twitter “using” it or do you mean actively participating in threads?

Yes but only for work. We do medical education on there and the medical community is still largely there. I keep waiting for our marketing team to shift but until the community does in mass we will stay.

As I said earlier in the post - if you are clicking links and/or just looking at posts, you are using the site as it contributes to view and interaction impressions.

I miss the info I got from activists (BLM, LGBTQ+ etc), autistic young adults & politics. That's what I used Twitter for.
No, I deleted my account shortly after the first Musk fuckary and before the renaming. I think it is a matter of time before brand accounts I admin will go the same way. Most of the marketing forums I am in are still "wait and see."
