The only snow we had in my part of NYC was one day in late January and all it did was cover the grass for a few hours before it melted lol. I have to look back and see how these predictions usually stack up, but I do hope we get a couple of (modest, not severe) snow storms.

Yup, I’m 30 miles south of the city and we didn’t get a single measurable snow last year, and maybe one the year before.
I follow a NJ-specific weather guy on FB who is usually pretty accurate and he thinks we’ll likely have a snowy winter this year based on what he’s seeing (global wind patterns, etc). Apparently a bunch of the recent weekend storms we’ve had have been patterns that if it had been winter would have been decadent snowstorms (last week or the week before was a Miller something or other, which is what caused the Valentines Blizzard of 2003).
I hope we (Boston) get a few good big snowstorms at least. Last winter we didn't get to go sledding once and it was depressing.
Agreed (CT), I feel like it's been years since we got any decent snow or even very cold weather. I've been thinking fondly of the blizzard we had maybe 10 years ago over Halloween where we lost power for a couple days. See what you've done to me, climate change?!??
count me on the northeast/midatlantic crowd would love to see at least one decent snow. It feels so unnatural (because...it is I guess) when we go a whole winter with NOTHING.
I do hope the possible severe/wet/etc elsewhere aren't damaging.
I will take just about anything as long as it’s not snow. Central Texas can not handle it. Texas’ energy grid can not handle it. I definitely can not handle it.
But YUP same here. Except snowboarding and it's MH who wants us to learn. Trying to learn how to ski or snowboard in slushy/icy ass conditions while sweating is really annoying, but I'm not willing to spend a whole weekend and travel far enough north to get decent snow.
Aside from climate change implications, this honestly thrills me. I hate cold weather and the St. Louis area can go either way in the winter. Last year we had almost no snow. I'd be fine signing up for the exact same winter this year.

Please let it be right; we need a wet winter. Sounds miserable but our yard is a brown crisp and our lakes are drying up. Massive old oak trees were dropping leaves in August and they don't normally lose their leaves until the spring. Bring it on; cold and wet sounds great and will make next spring/summer so much more enjoyable! I need to look at the prediction for Rocky Mountain snow.... we have a couple ski trips planned. Last year was awesome.

It's so funny because I am less than 1 hour from you but in a weird little spot that the snow lingers and we had like 7 snow days last year!!
Oh I know!! My cleaning lady lives in your neighboring city and there always seemed to be a huge storm that clobbered that area on the days she was supposed to come last winter! I'm pretty sure she got 2-3 paid snow days lol.
If it's gonna be cold, it should snow. Otherwise, let it be summer.
this is how I feel. As northern new englanders whose family income is dependent on a successful ski season, I always want snow, but in general I just feel like there is no point of it being cold if there is not fun snow on the ground. Just like in summer if it is going to be hot it should also be sunny, lol.

Same. I know climate change is bad, but on a personal level I would love a warm winter (and so would my heating bill).
dammit...so you're saying I need to do something about my fig tree? can I just leave it outside till it drops the leaves??
Leave it out til the leaves drop, then put it in a garage. At least that’s what I do with mine.
i don't yet have a garage (I have a set of plans for a garage....but no garage) so it's gonna have to go in the shed. Since it's not attached to the house obviously I've got more freeze risk. I'm thinking about wrapping it up in there. hopefully that'll do it.
I didn't get any figs off it (it started the year as just a little stubby rooted cutting, so not hugely shocked there) but it grew a TON so I'd love if it didn't die back.
