This is an odd suggestion, but I'm all for thrifting this type of thing. We have a local office furniture reseller that everyone goes to. They buy lightly used office furniture and resell to the public. DH and I both have Herman Miller Aeron chairs for WFH that we picked up for about $300CAD each. They would retail for $1400 apiece here. Maybe something to research of you have anything equivalent locally.
If you happen to be a part of your local buy nothing group, I highly recommend you ask. On my group there’s a ton of people giving away like new ones since their workplace sent it to them during Covid work from home days. Now back in office, many are getting rid of theirs.
I have an Ikea one very similar to the one posted in my sewing space; I was given it by someone re-doing their home office when their new job allowed them 3 WFH days. It's not well-padded and I don't find it especially comfortable at all. Neither did the donor who chose it for its clean lines. It's not a huge deal for me as sewing requires me to stand up for pressing between stitching.
In my office, I have this chair from Staples. It's not much to look at but very comfortable. It goes on sale often, btw. It's fully adjustable which might be a good thing if your son is still growing.
I was getting a ton of shoulder pain with my chair because the height adjuster broke. Saw this one on TikTok and am pleasantly surprised. Love being able to sit cross-legged

I will second this if you have one nearby. We picked up a Herman Miller Aeron and Steelcase something or other for like $250 total a few months ago. Wish we had found the reseller before my H went through like 4 different lower end chairs for various complaints over the last few years, uggh.

I’ve got my eye on a Serta brand chair from Walmart . Com. It’s about a hundred dollars. It will replace a 20 year old staples chair that i paid a similar amount for that has really held up over time. I don’t think you need to spend a lot to get a comfortable computer chair.
