Yep. Can say I did not enjoy the hottest summer on record experience whatsoever.
And it’s all oh I’m so glad for a mild winter! I’m so glad summer is here early! No. This is bad. We are going to see places become uninhabitable sooner than we think.

I hate when I hear those people. It’s not a good thing, it’s terrifying. We haven’t had measurable snow in my area in a few years, which is not good at all (I’m in coastal NJ). People act relieved about it and I am super worried about the implications.
I miss the snow! We live in New England and we are supposed to have four distinct seasons, but now it is cold and rainy until June and so hot in the fall that my Forsythia bushes re-bloomed.

We're just getting more rain. Most people think London has a ton of rain, but they don't really. We have a lot of grey but not actual rain. Last few years we've had so much more rain than the years before. And we're getting a short shot of VERY hot (for us) weather. Europe is definitely a lot hotter than before.

California has just been declared drought free.
Just a year ago, 99.8% of California was in some level of drought, and 43% of the state was in extreme or exceptional drought, the two most serious levels.
It’s supposed to be a wet winter here too so we should remain out of drought. Now if SoCal could just hold onto some of this water instead of going directly to the ocean…
This will be getting more and more people's attention in the coming few years, for sure. Nothing like knowing you are just one accident or (increasingly common) wildfire or flood away from losing your biggest asset.
I just saw an updated map of plant zones and we switched to an entirely different zone #. I don’t know why it’s not something that ever crossed my mind, but the warmer it gets, the more true natives won’t be able to survive in and damn that could fuck up the entire ecosystem on its own. That’s not even taking into account the whole ocean rising, rivers running dry, more natural disasters etc.

There’s a reason why Arizona had a record number of saguaro cactus that died this summer.
We had several in our small neighborhood alone that were 80-100+ years old and taller then the house that collapsed and died because our nightly low temps didn’t get below 90+ for weeks at a time.
Driving to work and you’d see them there one day and the collapsed into the roadway the next, it was so sad and depressing.

All of H's family are in AZ near Phoenix. Every year I wonder how long it will be until they have to move. Our nibling already said they are moving OOS after they graduate college in 1.5 years. I hope our niece follows suit in 3.5 years when she graduates. We'll see.
