H currently has Covid for the first time. He’s having a really rough time; I have never seen him this sick.
He did a virtual visit today and his doctor seemed to talk him out of taking Paxlovid. Said it’s really hard on kidneys/liver and would have required him to go in for bloodwork and a consult. Is this typical? He’s low risk and can probably wait it out, but oof. I’ve seen him cry maybe 5 times in 18 years and once was Saturday morning.
I feel so bad. He’s someone that never goes in and always waits viruses out. Rarely takes meds. He tried doing a virtual, urgent care visit yesterday, but nobody called back (like they said they would).
I've had a huge uptick of elderly home health patients coming home after being hospitalized for it. And then I had one that was asympsomatic and didn't test positive until the night after I spent an hour in close contact with her. It was about 4 days before I had to fly for my dad's funeral and I was so worried I'd get it; luckily nothing happened.
I'm in a Moderna trial so I had my last booster in early June. I had never had Moderna before and aside from absolutely horrific period cramps (I was at Disney and spent an hour in the bathroom at the Grand Californian until Tylenol kicked in almost in the fetal position) I didn't have any side effects. With Pfizer (my first eleventy hundred shots and boosters) the worst I ever got was aches. DH got sick every time he got a Moderna one.

Has he had bloodwork done in the past year? My doctor used previous bloodwork and did not require me to get new bloodwork. Does he taken any other medications on a routine basis?

He had a full work up/blood panel a few months ago and takes zero medications.

I would think this would be good enough to get a script without any additional bloodwork. I do not think everyone who is getting Pax is getting bloodwork immediately beforehand.

Our guidelines state "within the last year" but if not "to use provider discretion".
DD(15) has had Pax each time she's had Covid because she gets quite sick and she's never had bloodwork. Her doctor's office went over what to look for like jaundice symptoms but that's incredibly rare.
I'm sorry that your husband is having a hard time getting it, lucybrown. Is he feeling any better?
Thanks for the extra information. He is doing a lot better today; it seems Sat-Mon were the worst of it. Hopefully he continues to recover without event. The PA did prescribe him meds for the cough, which helped him get some rest last night.
ETA: He does have a history of alcohol abuse, but has been sober for 8 years. Zero other drug use or reasons for concern about his liver or kidneys. He said he is open with his doctor about it, so I wonder if that was a factor for the PA he met with.

I take a medication that can be bad for liver function. I get blood work/a full liver panel done every 3 months and (so far) my liver function is still totally fine. Even so my dr won’t prescribe paxlovid for me since it can be hard on your liver. I think some drs are just really cautious if there’s any history with your liver?. When I had Covid they gave me monoclonal antibodies instead, but that was the previous variant. I don’t know what j can take now. I’m sorry, it really stinks - I hope he’s feeling better soon
I am an expat but was still planning on cooking a nice Thanksgiving dinner for my family so I guess that is canceled.
Did anyone have stomach issues with Covid? I have stomach pain? How long were you sick?
Boo, I’m sorry you’re sick. I tested positive yesterday too and am having stomach issues. H is on day 7 and said the stomach pains only lasted through the first few days.

How are you feeling today? Do you feel a slight improvement on day 2? How is your DH doing
dulcemariamar, a slight improvement. The fever is a little lower. I've been upright a little more. It still totally sucks, but slightly less than yesterday. H is on day 7-8 and doing pretty good. Lingering cough and fatigue. It was his first time and he was hit hard. I have never seen him that sick.
