My DS turned 7 on Saturday and ran his first 5K! He did great, finishing in 33 minutes. He worked all season with our local kids run club and was so proud of himself. I'm excited to sign up for future races with him
Fri: 2 mile shake out run Sat: rest/yard work/mulching Sun: 15k race
This was my 5th time running this race (2011, 13, 14, 16, and 23); it goes through the historic neighborhood H and I lived in when we were first married. I wasn't really training "for" it this year and my goals were very low key, especially because I missed a couple runs last week (including my long run) with a cold. I was expecting to finish around 1:31. I've done 1:31 twice in the past, and that would be right about my HM pace from last month. Under 1:30 would be "nice to have," but I figured this was not the day or the year, and that was fine. I've been everywhere from 1:23 to 1:36 over the years.
I just cruised along having fun. I high fived all the kids, flashed peace signs at all the photogs. I had no expectations, no pressure, and was just really enjoying that I'm fit enough right now to go do this. I didn't really pay attention to where I was at the 5k mat, I was just out for a supported run with 1100 of my new besties. When I got to the 10k mat, I was feeling really good. I could see the hill at mile 7 across the park. (My goal going into this race was not to walk in the park. That's it.) The hill looked surprisingly little for how bad I remembered it from past years. The 10k pace clock rolled past 1:00:32 gun time as I ran by. I figured I was already 2/3 through the race and feeling good, how bad could I possibly blow up? I also knew that once I got over the hill at 7 miles, it would be downhill the rest of the way to the finish. So I did some quick mental math and committed to it for sub-1:30.
FIRST 5K: 30:25 9:47 MIN/MI SECOND 5K: 29:49 9:36 MIN/MI THIRD 5K: 28:19 9:07 MIN/MI
I hear you on enjoying being fit enough to run longer lengths with ease. I'm not training for anything right now, but went out for a run yesterday and was marveling how heading out for a 7 miler was enjoyable and not the least bit taxing at this point. It was just a delight to be out in the crisp fall weather getting some exercise
Fri - 5 mi run with friend Sat - road trip to a concert with my kids, a little dancing Sun - 4 mi run with friend and then swim meet officiating. I’m learning it is not super comfortable to stand for hours on a pool deck.
Fri: 30 min HIIT workout Sat: 60 min Peloton cycle Sun: 3.25 mile run
I ordered a new treadmill (Horizon 7.0AT) and am anxiously awaiting its delivery date. We are having a stretch of warm (for here) November weather and its been a godsend with my lack of treadmill at home. Only issue is fitting it in before it gets dark at 5:15pm
