I just saw something about this yesterday and we drop our dogs off to board tomorrow 🫠 I don’t know if there have been cases in Texas yet and they’ll be in an indoor/outdoor tiny house thing and they don’t play with other dogs, but it’s still unsettling.
We are out of town this week, but I plan to stop daycare for my younger pup until they have more info. I’ve also got a very old dog, and a cat undergoing chemo right now - totally overreacting, but better safe than sorry.
Our 16.5 yr old dog is currently boarding while we’re on a trip, he’s in CO. I’m worried this is going hit our old guy and he’ll be sick when we pick him up or shortly after. Fingers crossed 🤞

Oh this is interesting. My dog has been coughing a lot. We took him to the vet and he had swollen lymph nodes and an inflamed throat. We did a full round of antibiotics but he’s still coughing. He’s 13.5 and has a heart murmur so I don’t like him being sick. It’s been over a month now since he started coughing. 🙃

The anti-vaxxers are coming for the pets too. On a breed FB group I'm in, a few have come down with this and now the comments are getting flooded with "What vaccines did they get?!? They get too many now. We never had them back then..."
If it makes people feel better our vet (we are right outside Boston) isn’t concerned, just says to be updated on vaccines including flu. This is the message we got from a grooming place we use “Many of you have been asking us about the mysterious respiratory infection that has been circulating in the news and on social media. To our knowledge, and according to the recently released research from University of New Hampshire’s Veterinary Diagnosis Laboratory; this is the same respiratory infection that started in New Hampshire last fall and made its way into Massachusetts late last winter, into this past spring. While there is still a possibility of it spreading here, in addition to your run of the mill upper respiratory infections (commonly referred to as "Kennel Cough" or "Canine Cough"), we have not seen any cases of this particular mystery infection since March. We want to ensure everyone that we have remained vigilant and will continue upkeep on our deep cleaning protocols to ensure we keep our facility as sanitary as possible. As an added measure of precaution, we also run medical grade air purifiers in our indoor spaces. Below is our previous email from this past spring, as a reminder for what to look out for, ways to keep your pet safe, and what we are doing to help minimize the spread of any and all contagions, as much as we can.
If your pet has been experiencing any signs of respiratory illness, please inform us immediately as we keep very close track of sick dogs and who they have been around.”

I asked our specialist vet at a big vet hospital here about this today because my dog is on immune suppressants for a kidney condition. I was nervous about her next appt. Our vet said that in our area (Denver) they actually saw the biggest uptick in these cases in early summer and that cases are actually lower now, and they’ve been taking specific contagion precautions. She doesn’t seem to be concerned at all even though the vast majority of her patients are on immune drugs.

Tangentially related: during covid, we were chatting with some dog breeder/trainer/shower "friends" and they mentioned how awful vaccines are. We asked, all wide-eyed innocence, how they were able to show their dogs without vaccines, how that must be challenging, etc. and they stuttered about "not the same," stormed off, and have avoided us ever since.
I'm glad to hear that some of your vets aren't worried. We are trying to avoid boarding but our puppy goes to a group obedience class, and trust me that he really needs/we really need him to continue, lol

I follow The Asher House sanctuary in Oregon on Facebook and they recently were hit with this virus. Owner Lee Asher just shared his thoughts/experience..https://www.facebook.com/share/v/QWqwSezyupURqQxK/?mibextid=xfxF2i
