I would’ve taken all the cake and given everyone some. But by this morning, I realized it was kind of stale anyway and not pretty all half-cut. And when I offered, I was tipsy Thanksgiving night, and even in that message I was like “ I’m sure you guys want to buy some kind of cute cake for S, but just in case you need extra, we do have a lot left over.” Just bringing one piece is bizarre.
I meant like if they wanted to buy a cute mini cake, we would have some extra for the extra grown-ups.
I'm guessing it's more likely that they already celebrated her bday and she already had her birthday cake as you guessed. They may be offering up the option of you bringing the leftover cake because they assume you are expecting another celebration but they don't want to actually deal with it. I'd just let him know the cake is inedible and if they actually want to celebrate again they can figure out what to stick candles in.
It’s a little less weird when you mentioned that you suggested it and he was taking you up on it. I would just say hey sorry I thought the cake was ok but I looked at it now and it needs to go in the trash. He probably missed the nuance in your wording.
Really weird! I'm indignant on behalf of all who have birthdays close to or on holidays.
Some years my birthday is 3 days before Thanksgiving. Usually it's more like 5-7 days before. Anyways, I get a fresh baked cake! Every year no matter my age. I just turned 38 and there was cake. For my guests and co-guest of honor too (my twinner). My H's birthday is Dec 2nd. My FIL is Dec 22nd, my grandma Dec 27th and my mom Dec 30th. Everyone gets fresh cake or whatever dessert they prefer.
Let us have our celebrations too. It's not our fault we were born near holidays.

Is she having a birthday party with friends? I can see thinking you don't need a cake each time for two separate family celebrations plus a friend party. My kid doesn't even really like cake. He prefers celebrating with ice cream.
