So, Covid deaths don’t “count” if you were already old when you died.

Say what you will about Newsom, but he's no clown when it comes to debating.

I did not watch but have seen some clips. Newsom absolutely bodied DeSantis again and again and Hannity's attempts to intervene and help him did no good. Of course the Fox News spin machine says DeSantis won the debate but that's no surprise to anyone anywhere.

IMO Newsom should be shunned from Democratic politics for all of eternity for giving this clown air time in this venue. Absolutely boring and predictable move from him, which is too bad bc although I’m not a huge fan he usually has more common sense than this when it comes to political maneuvering.

Of course it is. But it’s a pretty weak move in that sense and honestly comes off a little desperate.

Idk I’m not on his exploratory committee but I’m skeptical of whoever greenlit this stunt if presidential is the end goal.

With so many worried about Biden's health and new "Genocide Joe" nickname among GenZ, is it not a good, low-key way to see how he does up against DeSantis to sort of feel out the situation in case Biden doesn't actually run?

I assume the genocide thing is in reference to support for Israel. I highly doubt the contingent of folks who are enraged at Biden’s actions (am I am, frankly) would tolerate Newsom as a replacement Dem presidential candidate. For many MANY reasons, but probably most relevantly that he has been under fire for his trip to Israel in Oct. and at the VERY least was trying to use the war for some self aggrandizing photo ops.

Newsom declaring himself the representative of “blue states” in some stupid right wing framed debate against a guy who is (mercifully) not likely to be the Republican presidential nominee doesn’t feel helpful at all. Not only because it doesn’t provide any meaningful information about how he’d do if he ran, and because the participation itself plays into a political image that he is already battling against with the left leaning side of democratic primary voters.

Also LOL forever that Black communities are going to turn out for Newsom. He’s an absurd candidate for president frankly.

wawa, i wish there were more open discussions among governors, actually. They always address each other indirectly via talk shows - get out there and discuss your issues openly. Let people hear you think through things without talking point sound bytes (well, I guess in addition to talking point sound bytes since they are sprinkled throughout the debates).

Of course, confession: I didn't watch the debate - just snippets after, so i'm a bit ridiculous for proposing something that probably others won't watch either. I watched the next episodes of the Squid Games reality show. But theoretically i like the idea. ::insert nerd face::

My spouse texted my mom about the Cowboys-Seahawks game because her partner is a Seahawks fan. She said they were taping the game and watching the debate. That is how we found out there was a debate. ha!

I’m not saying he didn’t debate well (I have no idea because I refuse to watch) and he was fine pre-Covid, but eating $400 ravioli at French Laundry whilst everyone else was barred from seeing their loved ones dying in hospitals was the end of him for me.

He’s so awkward. I’ve mentioned this before but we went to college together, and even then, he was so so odd. Like…he was an athlete at an Ivy League college, so we were all a little nerdy and weird but he was an outlier even among us athletes. No one liked him.
