I can't believe all 4 top GOP leaders voted to keep him....quite a few (114 total) other republicans too...I hope they get grilled to defend that decision.
the two dems that voted against were Bobby Scott (VA) and Nikema Williams (GA). Curious what their take was...were they in favor of just continuing to wait till he was actually convicted of one of the 65498765468 things he was going to be tried for?

Am I too cynical in thinking that the Rs that voted to expel him did so to say "See? We're against corruption! No, please, don't open that closet door."
I honestly thought it was going to go nowhere again.
I guess a Rep from Ohio said he had been subject to credit card fraud by Santos (as well as his mother), so the Republicans were like, "OH, well if it's one of us, that's TOO far."

I literally think this is what tipped the scales. Santos defrauded hundreds of donors (including this other GOP rep and his mother) to the tune of several thousand dollars apiece. I hadn't heard about it until today's story on CNN but I'll bet anything that this guy's testimony as a first person victim is what finally did it.

I agree this was likely the tipping point. Max Miller sent out a letter to all his GOP colleagues details how he and this mother (!) were victims of cc theft by Santos. So I guess the GOP has made it clear that lying, cheating, and stealing is fine as long as it doesn't happen to one of their own.

What do they think Trump is doing with his campaign money?

Has Trump been accused by his donors of making charges on their credit cards beyond the amount they donated to his campaign? Thousands of dollars more charges, apiece?

There are claims of recurring charges that weren't explicitly made clear upon initial donation, but that is a different situation from entirely unauthorized charges. And to be clear, I'm not at all advocating that what happened to those who made what they thought was a one time donation to Trump and ended up being charged monthly deserved what happened to them.
BTW, the SNL cold open was great. I'm really loving Bowen Yang.
Scandal in the wind, that was perfect.
I looked at the list of Rs that voted to keep him. None from the states that surround New York. All from further out. Like they want to stick it to the east coast libs or whatever.
