H and I want to take a week long trip to Europe the first or second week of June. We've been planning for London just for the ease of it (we want to stay in one city and we're flying from Newark), but I've been looking at flights and hotels in Paris and it's so much cheaper for the same week.
My concern about Paris is if stuff will be closed off or just a big mess in preparation for the Olympics. We'd want to do all the main tourist stuff and a day trip to Versailles. Neither of us have been to Paris (or London).
Hmm, it seems odd that Paris would be that much cheaper than London so maybe you're on to something about stuff being less accessible, though frankly the thought never would've occurred to me if you hadn't mentioned it. You also still have quite a bit of time to watch flights and wait for a deal to pop up if you'd rather go to London. Both are fantastic cities but I have a soft spot for London and would personally choose to spend a week there if it were me.

The big price difference is the flights. The price difference is $400+pp for regular economy for British Airways vs Air France. I know the weekend of the 8th are the Mets/Phillies games in London so that is probably driving up prices out of Newark. I need to play with dates to see if that helps. I think I'm just paranoid about any hiccups because we had a trip to Italy planned for May 2020 and you know how that went down. I'm now anxious about any crazy things that could go wrong.

For some reason (Olympics maybe) AirFrance flights have been much cheaper in June. We use miles, but AirFrance had some smoking hot deals on miles flights to most of Europe in June, not just to Paris (although they require a layover or stopover in Paris).

We are planning to go to Paris in the middle of June and I think it would be fine. It’s far enough out from the Olympics that people who are going to the Olympics won’t be there yet but close enough that they’ll have things ready. Or so I hope.
