Slowly coming out of a bad reading slump
Read:
I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy 3.5*'s. Very sad, some major TW's and I'm ashamed of the author and publishers for using the R word at all, never mind more than once.
(read/listended) The Last Invitation by Darby Kane 3*'s
Finished:
The Night The Lights Went Out by Karen White 2*'s - this book took me months to finish and then the end was silly and rushed.
4* *Sisters Under the Rising Sun by Heather Morris (3.5* It was interesting and a new spin on WWII, but it lacked character depth) *The Quarry Girls by Jess Lourey (3.5* Quick read, but darker than I had expected) *Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall *Plainsong by Kent Haruf (This book was a lot darker than I expected. It didn't help that I read the wrong book blurb so it wasn't what I was expecting. However, I really like Haruf's work. )
3* *The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey (interesting story but it never really grabbed me)\ *The Appeal by Janice Hallet (I found the way this book was laid out really interesting. However, there was just too much information thrown at the reader to really process it all, especially when she doesn't reveal the actual crime until the end.)
2* *The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro (I found this book both horribly mundane and horribly fascinating in the end (how he managed to weave the story so slowly and delicately), but I was so utterly bored while reading) *Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson (Old book that didn't age well)
The Proof of the Pudding by Rhys Bowen 4* The Cuban Heiress by Chanel Cleeton 3* Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen 5 * (This was a reread. I gave it 5 stars when I read it when it was first published and decided not to change it. I enjoyed it but I don’t know if I’d think it was 5 star worthy today.) The Oracle Year by Charles Soule 4* The Connellys of County Down by Tracey Lange 3 * Starter Villain by John Scalzi 4*
