I need to book our reservations for our February trip soon. I'm looking at dining options and have a picky 10 year old. He will likely want food from most of the kid menus - chicken strips, mac and cheese, etc. I think that will be fine with a la carte restaurants, but what about character dining and prix fixe menus? Will he be charged the adult price? Places like Space 220 have an adult price of $55 (for lunch) and $29 for kids, but the kids menu is what he will want to order from. Thanks for insight!
Cinderella’s Royal Table asked him Which menu DS wanted. Most likely be wise this restaurant is pre paid.
Be Our Guest gave us a HARD time when we asked if he could order off the kids menu, even though we said multiple times that we were okay with paying the adult price.
At Space 220 they had a burger on the adult menu so he was fine with that.
Anywhere that isn’t prix fixe or buffet lets anyone order off the kids menu in my experience. Prix fixe and buffets will charge him as an adult regardless of what he eats

We haven't been since my kids were both under 10 but I've heard that they will give you a larger portion of the kids meal for an adult price. So like 4 chicken fingers instead of 2.

Thanks! We are fine paying the adult price. We just want to make sure they will allow him to eat the food he wants. Sounds like it’s hit or miss, but hopefully it’s fine.
We went when DD was 10 (November 2022). We purposely limited the buffet/prix fixe restaurants because of this. Disney will absolutely charge you the adult price if it is prepaid, buffet, or prix fixe menu. If you just order off the regular menu with the price based exactly what you order, they can order off the kids menu and be charged whatever that price is.
For CRT, she wanted waffles from the kids menu. What our waitress did was sub waffles for the potatoes in the traditional breakfast at no extra charge so she had a giant plate of eggs, all bacon (no sausage), and like 6 Mickey waffles or something crazy like that. The waitress actually asked us before we even asked her, it sounds like they are very used to it there. It worked out really well for us because my niece/nephew were 7 but wanted eggs so everyone was happy.
Our only other reservation where it came into play was the dessert party.
