Anyone subscribe to NYT Cooking? They are running a deal for 50% right now. I love ot cook, but have picky kids and mostly need fast and kid friendly meals. I know a few people here use it though. Is it worth it or not much different than following blogs or googling for recipes?
I have it - I tend to trust the recipes there more than just a blog/google search as they tend to turn out well (or at least there are lots of reviews so it's easy to tell if the recipe is going to work or not).
I've found recipes there I've not come across elsewhere-- often riffs on famous signature items. The recipes are sound in that they produce the intended results and are generally excellent. I get the digital NYT and often something on the featured banner strikes me when I'm in that what am I going to cook now? mindset.
Hmmm I might need to get this. Ive found the recipes I have used to be among the best. I always get salty when they’re paywalled bc overall recipes online and thief reviews are highly unreliable but NYT ones are top notch. If given the option (it’s a free one) I’ll use the NYT recipe 99/100
I have it and enjoy it (as part of my NYT subscription). It’s quality writing and videos, too. I use it for everything from sheet pan recipes to a basic pie crust. Melissa Clark is wonderful.
I also have the login info for my BFF (for the NYT cooking app) and we save & swap recipes. They have an easy “saved ” section where we can make our own folders.

I'd go for it. I subscribe to NYT Cooking and go back and forth between that site and the Cook's Illustrated brands for probably 90% of what I cook and bake.
What I like about NYT Cooking is that I'll find unique or creative new recipes, from cookies to sides to mains. Things like cranberry-lemon bars (delicious!), there's a fantastic recipe for gluten-free pumpkin muffins that are amazing baked goods regardless of being GF, drink recipes, salads, etc. By and large the final result is very good -- I've only had a few things where I was meh about the end result (I loved the look of their cranberry curd tart, for instance, but it wasn't my thing taste-wise even though I love cranberry).
Cook's gets me great basics, smart technique stuff and a lot of solid, mainstream/classic "American" recipes, plus variations that I know my family will eat. I like NYT Cooking for a variety of creative recipes that are well-tested and reliable.
Thanks for posting this noodleoo ! My H used to get their emails but was disappointed when he realized he couldn’t see the full recipes, so he used it for inspiration instead. Now I subscribed for him up so we can actually try some. I also downloaded the app and predict I’ll get a lot of use out of it, which is much better than buying more cookbooks like my initial plan lol
i made this last night and wow, just wow it was SO good! When I tasted the sauce at first I was skeptical but after cooking it was delicious!!! I’m so excited especially since this was a very different flavor profile than what I usually make (which I’m getting tired of).
Here’s a gift link if anyone wants to try it! Highly recommend!
I meant to mention in my original post, there's a place for your own, private comments to add to your saved recipes. There's a tab next to the public comments where you can add your own changes/additions. I utilize this quite a bit because I usually add or change something.
