I kind of figured that's who it would be. Especially after he gave Lyla all the $$ and asked her to watch the kids. I don't know if he initially went in there to sacrifice himself, but he was definitely feeling betrayed and at an impass with the club. His poor kids.
I'm guessing Clay called the cops on Nero's operation. Maybe? I'm also having mixed feelings on the Jax/Pope meeting at the end. Or more just Jax's mental state in general. The Jax/Tig dynamic going forward should be interesting.
Oh, and I totally called Wendy coming back. I'm not really like the Gemma-fied Tara.

I have to totally disagree, I think the writing is awesome!
I wasn't shocked that Opie was the one to die, but I was really hoping it wouldn't be him (really, I didn't want to lose anyone). When you look at all the Jax has sacrificed for the club, losing his best friend is just another piece of it. Opie really didn't have anything left in his life. He loved his kids, but I don't think he was the one who wanted kids, I think Donna did. He admitted to Lyla that he never really got over Donna. Also, he was close with Piney and losing him and being so betrayed by Jax (by not killing Clay) really shook him. I think he loved Jax and the club, but didn't want to be a part of it anymore. By sacrificing himself, he could save them but not have to deal with them or his pain anymore.
I didn't see Gemma attacking the girl as being only about Clay. I think she was pissed that he was there, that he hooked up with the girl and she was pissed at herself for even caring. Attacking the girl was easier than attacking Clay.
I don't blame Jax for how he treats Tig. If Tig hadn't killed Pope's daughter, none of this would have happened. Yes, Pope killed Tig's daughter in a horrific way, but then Tig killed the cop and the cleaner. Pope demanding a Son's death was in retribution for that. He said he had to mend relationships. The Sons have done plenty of terrible things to protect there ties, so I don't think Pope is really out of line.
I love this season! Season 3 almost made me want to break up with the show, and I'm so glad I didn't.
I agree with pp about Opie. He hasn't had interest in his kids since even before Donna died. They didn't have a relationship because he was in prison and it was a struggle after he got out. He did it for Donna. So he really didn't have anything to live for.
I didn't want it to be him though.
I think the writing is still good. They continue to develop the characters, hence the changing of Tara. And Gemma going to Wendy is realistic, IMO. Gemma doesn't care who she walks over to get what she wants. The only person she cares about more than herself is Jax.
I'm looking forward to next week and the rest of the season.
