One of my kids has been sick for 3 solid days. Highest temp has been just shy of 104. I am thinking it might be the flu. H says he hasn’t been feeling great, but it is nothing compared to her. Her Covid test was negative, but I will test again tomorrow.
If it is the flu, is there any chance we all won’t get it? We were supposed to see my parents today. Obviously cancelled. Now it seems tomorrow might be out. Just trying to get a sense of if it is a sentence for the rest of us.
I suppose I could try a rapid test at the pedi tomorrow.
I’ve actually really enjoyed a few days being lazy at home, but it is sad to see her so miserable.
Ugh that does sound like the flu. We had it last year at Xmas and it sucked. Started with DD2 and she was sick for almost a full week with very high fevers too. I know I got it, I was able to get Tamiflu quickly since she had a confirmed flu test. I was still pretty sick , which makes me wonder how bad it would have been if I hadn’t gotten it. I don’t think H or DD1 got it. DD2 is a mamas girl so it wasn’t surprising I got it. I’d try to get tested so you can get Tamiflu if anyone else gets sick.
Sorry you guys are sick. I hope it passes quickly and fingers crossed you don’t get it!
Ugh I’m sorry. It sounds like flu and it’s going around like crazy! DD has had it twice and we’ve never gotten it from her. That includes her laying on top of me and napping on me when she was a toddler. Flu isn’t nearly as contagious as Covid do fingers crossed!
Flu is droplets like sneezing and coughing, so less contagious than Covid which is airborn. We all seem to get everything here but still seem to get too close while caring for sick kids.
We haven’t gotten Tamiflu every time we have the flu, but we got it the one year we were going to Hawaii. It can also be used as a preventative. We had no real side effects except maybe some light nausea with Tamiflu.

It just went through my house and 5 of 6 got sick. Ranging 2 days to 7 days of fevers. 3 tested negative for flu and Covid. It seemed like flu. There seems to be another version or something going around. They were miserable. I hope you can keep everyone else from getting it
Thanks, all. She had taught herself to hold in her cough - it almost sounds like a hiccup (maybe this is a covid kid thing?). It is so odd. But I suppose it has been saving us from being covered in droplets.

When I had the flu a few years ago (confirmed it was flu A) dh and dd never got it. We all get our flu shots though so I’m assuming that helped. I wasn’t coughing/sneezing a ton either. I guess since I did get my shot my symptoms were not too extreme other than major fatigue.
My youngest had it on thanksgiving. None of us got sick (10 in total) and so we were very lucky. He spent literally all day and Black Friday watching tv in my mom’s room so that might have helped some. But he was prodromal the entire time with all these people. 👏👏
Do you have a test only option for the doctor? Kaiser does walk in testing for a combo Covid/flu/RSV, which we’ve used quite a few times this winter.
We were at my in-laws on thanksgiving. My FIL was sick when we were there and diagnosed with flu that night. He, my MIL, and SIL were all unvaxxed and the other 2 never got the flu. Our family was all vaccinated and my oldest ended up with the flu 2 days later, but the rest of our family never got it. My H spent a good amount of time in the hospital with his sick dad, and my sick kid slept in my bed with me while he was sick, and I neither one of us ever got sick. So you do have hope!

My kid tested positive for Flu A on Friday after having a fever on Thursday. We had not been staying away from him because his symptoms were so mild, but we’re still all fine. The high fever and miserable kid are so sad though. I hope it breaks soon!
Where do you go to get tested for flu/RSV/etc? My girlfriend called the doctors on the 20th to get a sick visit for a raging sinus infection and was told the soonest they could get her in was January 17th! She ended up sitting in urgent care.

Good! I don’t think there is an easy clinic for us, but she tested neg for both flu and Covid (didn’t test strep but symptoms didn’t make sense). Her symptoms are basically gone besides a lingering cough now that her fever broke.
We are going to see my parents and just hope none of us have a delay onset of symptoms. H and I kept dragging getting our flu shot since our insurance changed but we need to get it soon.

Urgent care. Physicians take too long to get into these days - and I have a PCP I like!

My DD came down with a fever on Christmas Day, hitting as high as 104.3. Negative covid test. The night before, we had 12 people for Christmas Eve, and we had 4 overnight guests already here from out of state. Ugh.
Motrin puts her into a pretty good mood/space, so we had her mask when not eating, seated her at the table end flanked by H and I for meals, and hoped for the best. I didn't know what else to do. She's 8, and it was Christmas Day.
DS slept in her room (bc guests had his) the night before, but after that we moved him into our room. It feels inevitable that he gets it too, whatever it is

If you have a CVS minute clinic I really like them. You can usually make a same day appointment. And for us, we are close to a bunch of them. A few weeks ago both girls woke up on a Sunday with strep. I got one in at our minute clinic and one in at the clinic 15 minutes away. Then we get our meds right at the pharmacy.

Urgent Care centers. It sucks because the copay is $75 but it is the only place where we can get same day or next day appts.

My mom just spent a good chunk of today at an Urgent Care to find out it's 'just' a nasty cold. She got tested for flu, strep, covid & rsv.

We get strep tests done at the little clinic inside our Kroger branded grocery store. I can always get an appointment with a couple hours notice. We’ve never tested for flu or RSV or any virus anywhere. Because the basic virus protocol is to rest, hydrate, etc no matter the virus, IMO it doesn’t warrant going anywhere (and spreading the virus) to find out the exact virus. We only go in for things that are likely bacterial and need antibiotics, so strep, UTI, etc.

I used a CVS minute clinic for the first time recently for my 10 year old’s flu and covid shots and got a bill for $150 😳
I just got the bill today so I haven’t had a chance to call them. I didn’t realize minute clinic was so expensive. I uploaded all our insurance information before the appt.
Vaccines are free at our pedi but I don’t want to wait for an appt. Joke’s on me I guess.

Some insurance plans don’t cover cvs. I wonder if that is part of the issue.

Or maybe it’s considered out of network? According to the EOB they billed $250, my insurance paid $100 and I owe the other $150
