You are absolutely correct. I’m pretty liberal with illnesses, especially this time of year when it seems everyone has a never ending cold, but a fever is a definite no go.

You are right
Even if not Covid - flu, RSV, strep, norovirus - when there are clear signs of illness just stay home. And it sucks. It messes up family plans and that can feel terribly sad.
Not as sad as an 11 month old hospitalized (my family recently) or 75 year old (DH’s).
The amount of rage I would feel as the SIL if my family brought a kid with a fever and cough around right before I had to travel with my kids would be off the charts. You are 100% in the right. Having a sick kid sucks, but traveling with a sick kid and not having your supplies and comforts of home and being off schedule is a million times worse and I would never forgive you lol.
Sometimes doing the right thing sucks, and causes a lot of disappointment. You’re right to stay home. Depending on the situation you might consider a masked/outdoor gathering (if your kid feels okay to be out, and the weather is okay).
You're definitely not wrong! This isn't even a situation where it's a tough choice. I find it the hardest when my kid has an elevated temp (between 99-100), mild cold symptoms, maybe acting a little off but not particularly sick. A clear cut fever and obviously feeling sick is not even a decision to be made in my book!
pre-covid, I think the standard for "stay home from school" was 102.0 or not controlled by Tylenol, but "going to school" is different from "going to a lego playplace and spending time with elderly relatives". I'd stay home.
... I'd wear a mask around elderly relatives, even.
This may have been addressed (haven’t finished reading) but it’s not. 100.4 is a fever. If you’re sending your kid to school with 102 fever, you’re being a jerk — that kid is carrying a virus that you e now exposed everyone to.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
UPDATE: DD2 woke up with a fever of 104 this morning. My poor baby, she looked awful. It’s down to 102 with meds and she looks much better (playful, not so sad). SEE H, I TOLD YOU!!! I’m so glad we didn’t expose his parents, SILs family and everyone else at LEGO.
Meanwhile DD1 is starting to sniffle and I really hope she doesn’t get it and if she does, hopefully wasn’t contagious yesterday. 😖

100%. I've heard the 100.4 line of demarcation many times, but never anything higher. IRL, most daycares and schools we've been to have just used 100 as the round number for exclusion.

One hundred and TWO? No. That was never acceptable.
