We have a lot of really nice toddler/preschool toys that we are finally parting with. I’m probably just going to donate them to St. Vincent de Paul. Is there any better way to go about this? I feel like it’s all the basic toys someone would need to set up a refugee house or something if they had a little kids. but I don’t know offhand if any place better to donate these items.
If you have school age kids I'd reach out to their school counselor. They'd know if a specific family needed to start from scratch. Or a local head start? The one I worked for in the Seattle area had a very diverse population with lots of refugee families.
My local school district has a free store at the high school. Any family in need who lives in our district can go and shop for for food, clothes, household items and toys etc. I take all my stuff there.
All of our six elementary schools collected toys by age for the free store in early December. Parents/guardians in need could go and shop for presents for their specific kids. <3
I usually offer that stuff up on Buy Nothing. I've had pretty good success re-homing things that way. Sometimes people post on our BN board ISO things like this, to collect for particular organizations (grassroots givers and others).
