The article seems to implicate single use water bottles. I’m hoping that reusable plastic bottles are better. I’ve tried metal or glass and didn’t care for them…but maybe it’s some to reconsider and try some others. The part about even filtered water having nanoparticles because of the plastics filters makes me feel like it’s hopeless to try to get away from plastics, but I guess we just go for better and not perfect solutions.
We've gotten to a point that plastics are everywhere.
Example - my home brewed cup of coffee. Water is poured into my plastic coffee maker, run through plastic lines to my cup. The creamer I use is in a plastic container.
Actually, I don't know what point I'm making, but it's overwhelming.
Frankly, this makes me want to step up changing over from plastics for every drinking vessel we have.
I have a friend who worked in plastics and she told me she refused to eat out of anything plastic.
What does she mean by that? Is it just serving things on plastic or anything that has touched plastic?
Avoiding food that has ever touched plastic is essentially impossible at this point. Nearly all meat and cheese is packaged in plastic. Most packaged foods are in plastic. Even the bulk bins at stores like whole food and sprouts are plastic The lid on baking powder is plastic. Spices are in plastic. If you eat out, who knows what prep they do that they store or cover in plastic

Right, in her case she generally meant serving food in plastic. So no plastic water bowls, no plastic plates, etc. And avoiding plastic where you can otherwise. But yeah, it is overwhelming. I know plastic did amazing thing and has helped a lot of people but i wish we could turn the clock back and eliminate a lot of it.

Thanks for sharing the article!
Yep it’s overwhelming but I do try to avoid as much as possible. I was never a big bottled water drinker but I did go almost 3 years without drinking a single bottle of water (like after races I wouldn’t take them, when I traveled I made sure to bring a huge refillable bottle, etc).
When I do get take out I never heat anything up in it, but that’s probably the biggest source of my food/plastic use and admittedly I’m not going to give up getting the occasional take out. At home we only have glass for all food stuff.
Trader Joe’s is really bad about plastic and their foods though too. I try to mostly buy things not in plastic and try to go to the markets that are open year round but it’s not always feasible. I hate that cucumbers are always in plastic!
At Christmas I noticed my aunt has dozens of bottles of water, outside of health, so wasteful! My grandmother lives with her and she’s 106 years old so maybe the plastic is helpful lol.
