TW - police violence, racism, children (as in son not baby/kid)
This is horrific and seems like a huge cover up. I hope this story gets more attention & outcry, and these families get some justice. Many family members were looking for missing people & had no idea (even after contacting police) that they were dead.
The gruesome discovery of 215 bodies buried in unmarked graves behind a jail outside of Jackson, Mississippi, has left a community in disbelief.
The families are angry their loved ones were buried in so-called pauper's graves marked by just a metal rod and a number and families were never notified of their deaths. The startling revelation came months after the mother of 37-year-old Dexter Wade filed a missing persons report last March. It wasn't until August when Bettersten Wade learned her son had been hit by a police car and killed, then buried in that same cemetery.

That is horrific. I was expecting to read that the bodies were from 1953 or something. Not like, 2016-now. (But maybe earlier, I guess no one knows when the crime committed against #1 of 672 happened.

same, I was sure this would be from like 50-60 years ago, if not more. What a shock to see that this is from our life time.
To add insult to injury, the families of Moore and Hankins now have to pay Hinds County hundreds of dollars to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones since they’re classified as state property.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK?!?!?
Like the basics of the whole thing weren't bad enough, that is just salt in the wound.
Just....how? why? I have so so many questions. There HAS to be an investigation into this, right?
