The kids have all been sick, so they've all missed an entire week of school. DS has actually missed two full weeks. They're all feeling better today, fevers have finally broken, but they're all coughing like crazy so we kept them home for one more day. Seemed silly to send them for a Friday when they're not at 100% yet.
We're just laying low for the long weekend. We were supposed to host DH's aunt and his mom for dinner, but we cancelled since we don't want to spread all our sick kid germs. It sucks. DH's aunt is here from NYC and she basically never leaves the city. She was really looking forward to seeing the kids and seeing our new house. She hasn't met the girls before and she hasn't seen DS since he was a toddler.
I might make the kids clean out the toy/game closet in the basement so that we can donate some old stuff and find space for the new stuff they got for Christmas. The new stuff is kind of just in a pile right now in the family room. I will probably also break down and rent the new Trolls movie, even though I think it's insane that it costs $20 to rent it. The girls really, really want to watch it and if we're stuck in the house all weekend, it's the least I can do for an activity to occupy them for a bit.
Not sure what we will get into. We thought about going to see dd this long weekend. But the forecast for today is possible 60mph wind and 1-2 inches of rain, maybe snow later. Then Sunday maybe snow and 5-6 days of record cold. So I hate winter.
I may just cook and do some cleaning projects I've been putting off.
My work week was busy but good. I have a lot to do but since I had cleared my calendar to do jury duty, which is now next Friday, I have more time to complete stuff. Including change my password, so everybody pray for me. Something always goes sideways it seems when I have to change my password.

I didn’t sleep well and it’s gray and raining so I’m really struggling to focus and stay awake this morning. It’s been a very productive week but I am ready for the weekend.
H and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary this weekend. The kids are going to my parents, we have tickets to the symphony and plan to get dessert after and then reservations at the Turkish spa/bath for Sunday. I am looking forward to the quiet time together.
The week kind of dragged. DD1 was home sick for a couple of days - no fever, super sore throat, no strep or COVID. She went back yesterday and stayed at school until 730pm. We had a meeting about starting high school (!!) next fall, so she stayed and had pizza with her buddies after sports. Many kids live up to an hour away, so they always offer that kids can stay when there's something in the evenings.
DD1 has a basketball game this afternoon. She wants me to take her to see her "boyfriend" play tonight at her old school, but I'm not mentally prepared to see so many of the people that we purposefully left behind and cut out of our lives. So I said no. That's big for me.
Tomorrow both kids are supposed to have basketball games, but I doubt DD1 will play. Then maybe friends will come over? Sunday DD2 has her first soccer practice at a weird time in the afternoon, so I don't know if maybe we will skip it so she can see friends. We will see.
The kids are off Mon and Tues. I might take them to a rock climbing gym on Tuesday for something to do. They are supposed to have meetings with their advisors or something on Tuesday, but we haven't heard anything about that, so I don't know what's happening.
I'd like to get out for a date night with DH. We are doing dry January and we're both trying to lose a little weight, so I'm struggling with ideas. We typically go out to eat and have a cocktail, so that's out. The weather is supposed to be awful on Saturday, so outdoor things really isn't an option. I'm not really a movie person. Any ideas, anyone?

mae0111, We're struggling with ideas to do things that don't involve food, alcohol, or gambling right now. We've talked about bowling and doing trivia again.
It's 7 degrees right now with a wind chill of -12. It rarely gets this cold here and often feels even colder because of the damp PNW. The below freezing temps are supposed to last until Monday. My master bathroom toilet currently won't flush, but the shower and sink still have water, so not all the pipes froze after 12 hours of this cold. If I owned this house, I would have to insulate the pipes better.
Saturday, we're going to a junior NHL ice hockey game for Beau's company Christmas party. I've been asking him details all week and he has no clue. He didn't even know about tickets until yesterday when his office manager said she'd drive up to his office today to drop them off for the guys that work out of his shop. Beau's a little bitter about how much his office manager spent on the hockey game party after she cut the employee bonuses in half, which already weren't much ($300 down to $150), which is part of his reasoning for not finding out details. I'm a planner, so I just want the details! No plans for Sunday yet.
librarychica, I like the idea of a museum. Logistics may prove difficult (good museums are in the city, so there's the commute, parking, etc.). It's nearly impossible to get DH out of his office during the week, maybe a Sunday morning coffee? If the weather is ok on Sunday, I was thinking of bundling up and heading out for a hike before DD2 has to get to soccer... maybe I'll invite him alone...
supertrooper1, it's more challenging than I thought. Even bowling is usually accompanied by snacks and a beer for us. I'm looking into axe throwing - no drinking with axes!
Post by supertrooper1 on Jan 12, 2024 12:05:37 GMT -5
mae0111, yes it is! Trivia is at a local brewery, I agree that bowling is usually snacks and beer, and our axe throwing venue just got their liquor license. I know we don't have to drink at these places, but our next go-to is pop/soda/Coke which has also contributed to our weight gain.
It feels good to get back into a routine for the first full work/school week in January. But my routine means there is something going on every evening Mon - Thur. I'm glad we have no plans tonight. Tomorrow morning I am teaching taekwondo. Then DS1 will go to a friend's for a sleepover. DH and I are donating blood on Sunday. Then we will chill for the rest of the day. Since the kids are off of school on Monday, I decided to take off work too. Not sure what we will do with our day off.
mae0111 we like to do a day date and do some shopping. We would like to get a new couch so a furniture store, or go look at fixtures and appliances to redo our kitchen, or maybe a sporting goods store to look at some golf clubs or whatever we're in the market for at the time. Then a nice lunch. My lunch usually doesn't involve drinks. Maybe a ice coffee after or before.
Long week and I wish I was home today instead of at the office working. It is always such an adjustment in January. DD started her period at school on Wednesday but at the end of the day. She so far hates period underwear and says they make her feel soggy. Yesterday she couldn't sit still because she felt like she had a damp butt all day. She doesn't like pads because they gets crinkled up in her underwear. Well, she is wearing a kid size 10 so they aren't really designed for pads. Tomorrow she wants to try using tampons. So far it has been super light and nothing a panty liner can't handle but she was so frustrated that everyone had their period and she didn't. Now she says they suck and why did she want it to start in the first place. I told her to wear underwear with her leotard last night to gymnastics and you would have thought I suggested she paint her face red.
Our weather forecast is now just freezing rain instead of snow.
What about researching some places that have good mock tails and non alcoholic beer?
Our date nights are usually drinks also but sometimes I go for a mock tail because I don’t want alcohol. We do like movies, shopping, pretty much anything without kids.
DH and I have started doing "gift card dates" after we organized all the random gift cards we had accumulated and floating around the house. Basically we grab one or two and go do something with it. $11 left to the grocery store? Let's get some fun snacks. $50 at Home Goods? Go wander and shop together. We have a whole envelope full of random amounts and places so we just work off of that. Some are definitely more exciting than others but it saves us money and gives us an activity idea.

twinmomma, that is a great idea!! We, too have accumulated all kinds of random gift cards (that usually end up just sitting around not getting used). We may try this for an upcoming date night!

Super glad to see Friday!! It has been such a long week. I had a really good check-in with my boss this morning, so yay for accomplishing that.
Otherwise, not sure what's on tap for this long weekend (we're all off on Monday). DH is at work tonight, then works again for 24 on Sunday. I've been struggling to think of things for me & the kids to do when he's working, arghhhhhh. There are chores that need to be done (naturally), and we really need to clean out DS' room because it needs a makeover, badly!!! We're all in agreement, he needs a new bed, furniture, the works.
I need to make a weekend list so that I make sure to get the "have-to" stuff done but do some fun stuff too. :-)

We are surviving. Monday was our first day back to the real world with school and work. The boys and my dad were coughing last week and my dad felt bad but the kids didn’t complain. My dad took a Covid test and it was negative so we went on with life assuming it was just a cold that’s going around as no one was egregiously sick. Tuesday of this week I started feeling bad and hit a wall and tested positive that night as did my stepmom. Dh clearly has it too but isn’t testing. So we’ve both been wfh all week. I’m now assuming the boys likely had it last week but are clear now with no symptoms so they’ve been in school while Dh and I wfh. Thankfully I’m starting to feel better but plan to lay low and not go any further than our backyard hot tub this weekend. Thankful Monday is a holiday for all of us.
It was a busy but good week at work, as usual. H laughs at me because that's what I tell him every day.
We have a four day weekend for MLKjr and a semester break day (right after finals for the high schoolers. I'd rather have DS in school/be at work on Tuesday. Instead that day DS has a play date & we'll both go to the dentist. No other plans. We're in a cold snap. It's been in low single digits but negative with windchill all day. It's supposed to be similar temps all weekend. I think it's supposed to warm up to the 30s on Wednesday or Thursday. So we'll be hanging at home this weekend.
186momx,DD1 wore spandex shorts over her leotards at practice ever since she started her period. As of this year, she couldn't wear these in competitions, but could wear them for warm up ups. Might that be an option?
The week seemed long, but everyone in my house is happy to be back in their routines.
H ski patrols both days this weekend. DD1 has some school projects to complete. She and I will put in a couple of hours at the Humane Society. Lots of super cute pups to play with!! DD2 is spending tomorrow night with a friend. H and I are going to see a movie for a date night. If time permits, we'll get dinner too. Sunday DD2 wants to snowboard. I'll likely ski in the morning while she rides.
As long as the roads are not totally messed up - we're supposed to have a big snow storm tomorrow through Sunday morning - the D's and I are meeting up with my sister and nephews in their town Monday.
The weekend isn’t too crazy yet. The dog is having surgery on Monday and I’m trying not to worry about it. It’s not going well. Next week is crazy — we’re supposed to have snow Monday night, I’m going to a conference Thursday and have a colonoscopy Friday so subs both days, which is a huge PITA. Now I’m thinking that I might need to take Wednesday off too to be home with the dog (DH has to go in Wednesday). Stresssd.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I’m still sick - ugh. I feel way better than I did before the antibiotics/other meds, but I still feel like I’m underwater/my head is clogged and have a cough and snot. I’m wondering if maybe I now have an ear infection? I think I’ll go back to the doctor Monday if I still feel sick.
Tomorrow is puppy day! The kids are so excited. So are DH and I (though we are also not looking forward to the work involved). DS1 has his first ever golf lesson in the morning, and DS3 has his first ever preschool friend birthday party, so DH, DD, and DS2 are going to pick up the puppy (about 1.5 hours away). I expect we’ll be getting a lot of the kids’ friends coming by tomorrow afternoon and evening to see the puppy.
Sunday DD has two softball games and DD and DS1 each have a basketball game. Monday we are celebrating DS1’s 10th birthday at K1 Speed. His real birthday is 1/23 but we like to do his party on MLK day so sports don’t interfere.
We’re planning to have one of DD’s friends puppy-sit a bit during the party since we’ll be gone for like 4 hours probably. My parents come back here to stay at their condo for a month on 1/31 and it will be nice to have some backup for when DH and I both go to the office during the day in terms of puppy care/company. So we just have to stagger our schedules a lot until then.

I did an all day declutter today with my decluttering course that I bought. That has to be the best investment I have ever made, I have to say.
DD went on a playdate today and DS' friend is coming tomorrow after church. Monday is a holiday for the kids and DH but I'm working. I will likely go into the office at least in the afternoon but it's supposed to be super cold here (relatively) so I might go in late and come in early.
I had a picturesque weekend planned at Breckenridge w my boyfriend. My kids were w dad, his was w their mom. Flights. Hotel, 2 day ski pass. He bought a travel bag for our equipment. I was approved to miss one day of work next to a holiday off….
First night was lovely! I had a headache but powered through. I had planned a sleigh ride and when we got off I started feeling nauseous. I ended up getting sick all night and just could not sleep or keep any water down. Boyfriend went out in the middle of the night to get Gatorade and store bought oxygen cans but apparently they don’t do nearly enough. Went to urgent care and I do have hypoxia and altitude sickness. My oxygen was 85 when I was up and moving around so iit was probably much lower when I was trying to sleep but couldn’t. It was a restless feeling and the nurse said that bc your body is working so hard for oxygen.
Our ski pass is 2 days and I spend the first day confined to a home oxygen tank. We went ahead and extended the trip by a day. I had to get all of my kids logistics taken care of and my mom is going to stay the night with them. It’s really such a rare opportunity for me. It was the only 3 days of the whole month I don’t have the kids too
It was our redo of getaway fun to make up for our trip to Cancun this summer when I had just found out ExH had been monitoring my text messages and I was having panic attacks on that trip and dealing a the litigation while I was there, too!
The town is absolutely beautiful! I love it! I’m hoping things improve! Yesterday was super windy and freezing and most of the lifts were paused anyway.
