Why does two glasses of wine (normal sized, not huge) now make me unable to sleep? Getting old sucks.
Today it is freezing and I need to go to the mall to buy a dress. I am sure it will be a zoo since we still have no snow and people will be looking for indoor stuff to do. It is the first time I can remember that it's been Jan in MN and I can still see my grass.

@@@ Our daughter seems to know it’s the weekends cause she’ll sleep till 830/845 wahoo, instead of usual wake up at 745 for daycare during the week. Just last night she started signing the abc song and it’s so cute. This age is really fun (14 months).
I’m very happy for a 3 day weekend! My partner is gonna take her to her music class and then they’ll prob do stuff afterwards so I will most likely laze around and watch reality tv instead of doing something productive like cleaning

It’s our last day of vacation. It’s quite chilly, but still sunny. We’ve had a great time, but I am ready to be home. I also caught a cold which sucks, but could have been worse. I guess I’m glad it’s me and my H who was sick for most of the month of December. Regardless, I’ll be happy to climb into my own bed tomorrow night!
DD is applying to the same IBDP that her brother attends, and they have to do an in person writing sample today. AI scares? DS just had to submit online, but it was right after schools opened again- and AI wasn't the concern for schools it is now, I guess.
H is the morning person, so he took her- and he's run into so many people we haven't seen since the kids' preschool days. At least 5 of the other kids were in preschool with her, amd the director was there with her granddaughter.
We were at that preschool for 6 straight years, so it was a big part of our lives- it's going to be so fun to see those kids all grown up and watch them go through HS together! ❤️
We had a fun night out with friends last night hearing a local band play for 2 hours and then just hanging out and playing songs on the jukebox at the bar. Dragging a little this morning since I had too many drinks (all light stuff though, at least). I need to work out this morning, and then DS has his first basketball game ever at 1pm. It will definitely be a shitshow. He doesn't know if hes on offense or defense most of the time lol. Should be entertaining. We don't have any plans the rest of the weekend besides maybe going to brunch tomorrow. I'm off MLK but H isn't, and I have childcare, so I'm going to drive to another town 45 min away to go to Trader Joe's and stock up on our favorites. Big adventures.

It's raining pretty hard today. I had planned to run to the dump this morning after dropping DD off at dance, but I don't want to go in this storm. Costumes are in for DDs competition dances, I can't wait to see them. We have a 3 day weekend, I need to finish painting the hallway trim, clean and work on organizing.
I am thinking about closing off the kitchen door to my office, so I'm going to shut the door and pretend it's not there for a while. The house has 2 front rooms (living and my office) and the kitchen, bathroom and small den in the back, in a big circle. The office was marketed as a dining room, but it was originally a bedroom. It does have my giant dining room hutch, which I'm not sure could go anywhere else, so I'm not sure how annoyed I'd be to walk around if I need dishes from the hutch. I might be able to place the hutch in the kitchen in front of the door.
I'm starting my last class for my MA, which is research statistics and analytics. If anyone here has SPSS experience and wants to volunteer to be my Phone a Friend when I get into needing to running these assignments (at this point I can't even figure out how to open it) I will proofread/copy edit anything you need for the rest of your natural life.
We’re heading to the climbing gym to try to do something normal as a family. Not sure how long we’ll last, but I think getting out of the house might help? I can’t stand looking at how clean the floors are. The last few months of his life James would track litter every where and it was such a headache cleaning the house from top to bottom a few times a day. Now I miss it.
Sorry. I’ll post about something other than my cat again someday.

I'm so sorry. I hated every minute of that class (which I had to take in undergrad and grad school). If I could help I would but I barely scraped by. It was the only reason I didn't get a 4.0 in my MA degree.
Our weather forecasters have been predicting a massive snowstorm for this weekend. It was supposed to start midday on Friday, but we had zero flakes until maybe 8:00. I'd say we got an inch at most, and then it stopped. This morning there are patches of blue sky, and my weather app says snow might start by noon.
Of course all signs point to the snow actually hitting right when we have plans out of the house--Kid 1 has an archery lesson on the other side of town, and DS 2 has a D&D game 20 minutes away. I'm going to be so annoyed if neither is cancelled because the weather is fine, and then the snow really starts once they've arrived and we have to deal with the roads anyway. There was a bad snow squall on Wednesday right as I was leaving coffee with a friend, and it took me twice the usual time to get home because of it. I want a snow day where I don't have to drive anywhere. Is that so much to ask?
It’s bright and sunny here but -5 with a feels like -14, so we’ll be inside all day and have no plans to go anywhere.
DH’s aunt is in town, so she and his mom and grandma are coming over for dinner tonight.
I grocery shopped and watered all my plants yesterday, so I don’t have a whole lot I need to do today. Planning on finishing my book and making a cranberry orange quick bread to snack on. I also finished the first book of my crane Lego set, so I’ll get started on the second set of instructions today too. It’s really coming along.

Three day weekend! I woke up super early, and I’m so tired. Everyone is still sleeping, so I should go to the store real quick. And then I don’t want to do anything else today!! We will see if that can happen, it I sure hope so!
ETA it’s only 15 degrees here. So, that’s impacting the mood around here for sure!

I did use SPSS for a Psych research methods course I took back in college, but that was 20 years ago unfortunately I don't remember anything and I assume it has completely changed since the version I used back then!

DH is on board with my idea to remove the desk in the "desk cubby" in our dining area (our house was built in 2000, in the height of popularity of these things), so that is exciting. We'll put a tall freestanding storage cabinet in the area for now, which will store office supplies, bills to be paid, things to be filed, etc. It would be fun to do floating shelves and have it look more decorative (plants, decorations, a few cute baskets to hold the office supplies, etc.), but I'm not at a place in my life organizationally where I can keep it looking nice. Maybe in the future.
The winter storm is in a lull right now. We lost power twice today - once for an hour or two overnight, then it went out again at about 6 am. Thankfully it came back on around 9 am. Lots of extra line crews had been brought to our area in anticipation of the storm, but we didn't have as many power outages as I think were expected, so they were able to get to ours more quickly.

My deepest sympathies. That class was my only C in grad school. I hated it and never understood the material or program. Also, I never did research/got a PhD so I feel like it was a useless class. But I hope you ace it!
We have a babysitter coming tonight so I need to clean, but it's so cold I don't want to get out from under the blankets. And by so cold I mean low 60s 🤣 I can't ever live anywhere with actual cold again. I've been doing dry January, and am debating breaking it on our date night or not... We're going to a fancy restaurant with wine pairings. Decisions decisions!

I'd totally break it for that opportunity but I'm not a great example either but I love wine/food pairings!
DS didn't shake hands with the other team at the end of his basketball game today. He just kinda walked through the line and was like scratching his ear instead of having his hand out. H and I were absolutely livid in the car and he was like "what, I was just trying to avoid germs!" I really don't think he had ill intent (and I'm sure they really hammer in the germs thing at school and not touching each other) but man, that really makes you look like a jerk. I think he gets it now and won't make that mistake again. OMG why is he perpetually embarrassing me.

Livid? Yikes, young kids don't always act perfectly through the day. This sounds minor in the scheme of things.

beerlover I'm guessing you are being facetious and that your DS isn't really embarrassing you perpetually. I do think adjusting expectations helps and realizing it's highly likely you and your DH were the only ones with eyes on your DS at that moment. I rarely look at other kids long at sporting events if my kids are on the course/field/pool etc. too.
thebreakfastclub , maybe you're right and our expectations were too high, but IDK, he's also 7 and its not his first sporting event - he's played several years of other sports. He knows you shake hands at the end. I feel like it makes him look like a bad sport, especially when he was the only one in the line who didn't.
maudefindlay, definitely facetiously!! He's not always embarrassing me. Maybe only 50% of the time
I took the afternoon trip to the HS (DS had a club meeting) because I needed to run to Lowes and grab stuff for a plant shelf I'm building/engineering. My best succulent window has a lot more vertical real-estate than ledge room.
This store was awful compared to the one near me, but I cobbled together everything I need. I also found a sad sack of a pancake plant on clearance, totally flooded plastic pot wasn't doing it any favors. I potted it in better draining soil and a nice clay pot, so I bet it will be happy again in no time.
The school was so busy, apparently they were hosting a regional cheerleading competition, food trucks and music and pom-poms and glitter everywhere, LOL. It's usually so quiet on the weekends!
I am so frustrated with my kids behavior at home. I know a lot of it is just being cooped up inside, especially DS who was home sick for over a week. H is away for the weekend so I was going to take them out for pizza and arcade tonight but they COULD NOT keep their shit together all day long. I warned them 82 times and they were still *shocked* when I said we weren't going after DD hit DS and DS called her mean names.
Wtf kids, I was looking forward to getting out of the house too!

I left the house at 10 am and got home at 4:30. I'm exhausted but I have a dress!
In order of stops: 1. Nordstrom Rack, didn't hit it big today (almost no dresses) 2. Saks off 5th, tried on a bunch but none were really the right sizes, I was just trying to see if anything worked 3. Macy's, OMG why is that store always such a train wreck with such poor customer service 4. Nordstrom, almost no dresses. Weird. 5. Another Macy's, also a disaster, but I found an ok enough dress and bought it because I was panicking that I wouldn't find one (will be returning it) 6. Another Nordstrom, tried on a 500$ Mac Duggal dress that I loved, never heard of the brand but it was very well made. Not in the budget though. 7. Von Maur. Success!!! Pricing was all the same across all 3 department stores, and they carried overlapping brands. Yet Von Maur was by far the most pleasant experience. Well organized racks, they had all sizes of each style, the clerk helped me zip and unzip and grabbed other sizes for me, basic alterations were free and only took like 2 minutes for the alterations lady to get there, and she suggested additional free alternations in addition to the hem as well. 10/10 would recommend.
