How was everyone's weekend? After very weird weather Friday and Saturday (snow, wind, rain, more snow, more wind) we are now polar vortexing it.
DS's games were all canceled, but DD's went because they were Saturday night and Sunday morning.
We successfully had a pool party for DD's birthday, and then the girls went home in -9 degree temperature. Thankfully, they were all changed and dried off before the end of the party, so best case scenario for the girls. Pizza, doughnuts and Taylor Swift music. I'm always glad when the parties are over with especially her's because it is January so you never know if someone will be sick (covid) or if there wil be a giant snowstorm etc. which means you have to reschedule it, and then the whole thing drags on for a month.
Most likely school will be called off tomorrow, so I may need to call off work and stay with them since DH is going into a new office which is a closer location not in the city. I think this office will be good for him because I once had to pick him up at the train station 25 minutes away because the other line had a bridge issue. This office is basically located where I had to get him off the train, so it cuts the commute into more than half.
We woke up to snow today, which is really awesome. I bought snow tubes a couple of weeks ago, which was a great decision. The kids were outside, sledding down our driveway, bright and early.
We are part of the nationwide AT&T U-Verse outage, so that’s frustrating. But I’ve been trying to convince DH to switch to Spectrum for better internet anyway, so this may be a last straw kind of situation.
Tomorrow we have to talk to DS’s school. We may all come to the decision that they can’t meet his needs there. He had a meltdown Friday that was really epic. I am already there. His therapist thinks it’s something the school is doing because we’ve gone from a kid who had zero behavior issues in his entire life to a kid who is suddenly hitting other kids. So I want to move him now. The school may tell us we have no choice. DH really hopes we can hang on until the end of this school year. I’m torn a little but really leaning heavily toward “his needs are not met here and they can’t help.”
No school and no work today. We laid low for the weekend since the kids were all getting over illness. DD2 just couldn’t shake her fever even though she was otherwise totally fine. As of last night I think we are finally in the clear! DS is going back to his mom’s today, but her flight has already been delayed multiple times. I don’t understand how she hasn’t figured out that she needs to fly home the day before yet. It seems like every flight lately she books so that she lands here just in time for pick up and then it gets delayed or cancelled and it’s a whole thing to adjust everyone’s schedules to accommodate it. Today his grandmother will come get him since she will be late, DH had to work, and I have an appointment to get to with the girls. Exh is on vacation with former fiancée this week. They’re back together as boyfriend/girlfriend now apparently. So the girls are with me for some extra time. Of course it falls on the week I have to be in the office every day instead of working from home. But we will figure it out. The work holiday party is Friday night and I am agonizing over what to wear. I have a jumpsuit that I love, but it’s low cut and I’m not sure if I’m comfortable in it. Or I have a dress that is fine, but I’m not totally in love with it. I may make a thread with pics for opinions. DH has been no help.
Decent weekend. We hung out with friends Friday and Saturday night. We put a heater in the garage yesterday and hung out and smoked ribs and meatloaf for the week. It was delicious.
Ds freaked me totally out Saturday. He sends a text that he wants to talk to me Sunday. My mind goes to the worst so I'm texting back like WHAT'S THE TOPIC. Thankfully, it was just he and his girlfriend had a spat and he wanted some motherly advice.
Dh and I are both off today It finally snowed yesterday and its 12 degrees, so not much planned. I should do some type of project or home organization today, but I'm feeling pretty lazy.

No School today. We aren't as cold as other parts of our state right now (certain not the cold parts of the US!!!) but all the MLK things are canceled and we're "monitoring weather". I'm currently WFH but I had multiple meetings that are supposed to be in person today. One of them is moved to virtual but the 30 minute "touch base" I have scheduled with the higher ups has not...I just texted about it but if I have to come in for that it'll be...whatever.

This is one of the days I’m thankful and willing to pay the CA sunshine tax. We all have today off for MLK and are starting to feel better from the plague. I laid in bed all day Saturday and resting did me a world of good. Yesterday I was able to get groceries, clean the house, organize a few things, do all the laundry and make dinner. Dh took the boys to the track as I was home alone. Today we are laying low. They were going to go back but Dh was spent last night and still has a lot of work to do from yesterday and work work so I told him to take it easy or he will end up sicker again and he’s already saying getting sick threw everything off. Duh! So rest and let yourself get better! This week work will start to get busy for me so I’m trying to do nothing again today as I was coughing more last night again after being so productive yesterday.
It was a decent weekend - not super busy but not totally quiet. DD1 got hurt in her basketball game on Friday afternoon. With about a minute left, she jumped up for a rebound, rolled her ankle on the way down, and then someone stepped on it. The trainer didn't think it was broken, but it's very swollen. We went back to the trainer on Saturday and she put DD1 in a boot. If it is a fracture, it would be treated the same way. We are going back to see the trainer tomorrow (kids are off but trainer is open) and see what she says.
After our trip to the trainer, I picked up 2 of DD2's friends and brought them to her basketball game, then they came over to hang out while DD1 went to a movie with a friend. Sunday DD1 had a friend here and DD2 went to indoor soccer training. It was pretty cold here and still is, but nothing like what you all are seeing in the middle of the country. Yikes!
Kids had their piano lesson this morning, and DD2 is waiting for a friend to come over. I'm working a little even though the office is closed. Kids are also home tomorrow so they'll just hang out while we work.
The week will be busy. DH has to go to the beach house for the day on Wednesday because we need the chimney cleaned and repaired. There's no cap on it and with all the rain, the fireplaces are damp and everything smells. Then I have to go to a full-day meeting over an hour away on Thursday, which is pretty inconvenient and, IMHO, unnecessary. DH is flying out at 5am on Friday for a work trip, I think coming back on Friday night? DD1 will have a game Friday. I don't think she can play but she will go sit on the bench, which means I'll have to bring her home. So a little more juggling than usual but we will make it work!
Well the whole household just spent 2 hours chipping away at the inches of ice plus snow plus ice so that the driveway is clear and its 25° out. Plus i deiced my car so i can go to work hopefully tomorrow. I'm starting to panic about deadlines. They already cancelled school tomorrow as we are expecting more freezing rain tonight. My office building has no electricity last I heard from a friend. DH boss actually closed work today. We have electricity at home but tomorrow will mark the 4th day of being below freezing and we just ain't used to it. Monday rant over.
Like sandandsea, also glad to be in warm CA. Especially because we got our puppy Saturday! This is Skye, our 8-week-old Scottish terrier puppy. She is just the sweetest and fitting in great with our family so far!
We ended up with a snow day today. DH is out of town, exH is out of town, and I'm supposed to be in the office all week for our remote fly in quarterly meetings. I considered dropping the girls off at my sister's house so I could still go in, but the roads are awful already, reports of tons of accidents on my commute, and I decided it wasn't necessary. I'm feeling super guilty about it, even though my boss said it's ok. I'm pretty mad that he didn't just say today is a snow day and everyone should WFH. Instead he told people they could use PTO or use one of our "flex" days that means we're working from home on a required in office day. We only get a few of those a year so I'm guessing a bunch of people drove in who normally wouldn't have made the trek because they want to save those flex days.
It was -8 this morning so the kids have a snow day/ elearning. I stayed home to facilitate as DH was supposed to go to the office. Turns out he didn’t go due to the weather but I still stayed home because he’s on calls all day. I haven’t done much with e-learning. Yay older kids. But I did scrub out the kitchen.
I'm also pretty glad about this whole living in CA thing. I spent the weekend at my mom's house going through stuff. SO. MUCH. STUFF. Her garage is now full of treasures (in addition to 50+ years of garage crap) that my sister is certain someone may want to buy (I think the majority will be hard to give away for free). There are approximately 25 bags of bagged stuff that needs to be trashed. And we haven't made much progress on the kitchen or family room yet or gotten rid of any of the furniture (my sister will take a couple pieces, some pieces someone may be willing to buy or take for free, but a lot will end up in the dump (pretty sure no one wants a 40 year old mattress or 40 year old damaged couch, for example). My text trip down, I'll be flying - that drive is rough. But I wanted a car with me to bring back some things I can't carry on a plane (my dad's framed flag from the Marines being the most important).
The whole trip made me want to start purging stuff in my own house, but I don't have the energy in me at this point.

Today is finally supposed to be above freezing, but only to 36 degrees and our best chance for snow is today.
The weekend was pretty good. Saturday we went to Beau's Christmas party at a junior hockey league game. I had never been to a hockey game before and they did a great job of getting the fans involved for a non-major league game. It wasn't the best atmosphere for a holiday party because his company didn't get a suite, only some seats in the middle of a section, and it was so loud that no one could socialize (not that I knew any of his coworkers to socialize anyway). Sunday we went out to breakfast and grocery shopping before watching football. It was nice to not do much. I was off Monday and it seemed like my whole day was going to Costco and the gym. I did finally take our Christmas tree down too.
It's supposed to get all the way up to 17 degrees today... warmest it's been since last Thursday.
No school or work for DS(7.5) and me today. It's semester break day due to finals at the high school level. We're both at the elementary level since I work at the same school DS attends. DS is having a play date at our house this morning and we both have dentist appts this afternoon. DS is less than thrilled about the afternoon plans.
I'm ready to get back to work. We're expecting snow tonight and tomorrow morning so I'm expecting a late start or snow day tomorrow. Hopefully just a late start.
Another snow freezing day here. My office has no phone or internet but we got back the power. We stayed home as it looks like the road crews haven't done anything to unfreeze the roads. Right now it is raining but the rain is freezing once it hits the ground as it is only 29. So far my clients are all understanding mainly because they also don't have power/internet and are staying closed. They already cancelled school for tomorrow. Today has been a massive clean purge day as I was looking for the dogs snow boots to try and help her stability on the ice. Still haven't found them but parts of my house are a lot cleaner.
