When I bought my house it had the orange tinted slab doors. When we redid the first floor we put in 6 panel doors and painted them white. I'm finally getting around to replacing the doors on the second floor now. I'm going to do the same doors, but was thinking about painting them black to add some interest to the hallway. Would it be weird to have the doors a different color on the second floor? If I do paint the doors, do I have to paint both sides the same color or could I do them white on the bedroom side?
I have no formal basis for this opinion, but I feel like black doors are something you need to really commit to, for it to look good. So while normally I would say that it's fine to do different things on different floors because you don't see them at the same time, I'm not sure about white doors on the 1st floor and black on the 2nd.
If I were going to do black doors, I would probably be more inclined to do them downstairs, in areas with some natural light, rather than in the upstairs hallway which is comparatively dark (at least in every house I've lived in). I think there are better ways to get "interest" than making the upstairs hall feel darker.
We replaced all the luan hollow core doors in our last house with 6 panel white doors though, so there's my bias for full disclosure. Our current house already has white 6 panel doors but we'll probably replace with nicer/solid versions eventually.
I’d keep them white - I think it’ll look nicer if they match the trim. I also think black doors might make the hallway look a bit dark, particularly because your floor is sort of medium-dark.

Black seems like it would look harsh in that hallway. I think you need more light/lighting for the black to work. If you are set in doing a different color I'd pick a fun, brighter color.

I love black doors in the right setting, but it needs to be part of a comprehensive style throughout the entire house, not only on one floor. I think just for the upstairs hallway, especially if you want the door interiors to be white, would look out of place and not come together stylistically the way you’re envisioning.
