The report’s findings about the failure to follow protocol and the lack of sufficient training to prepare officers for a mass shooting largely mirrored the flaws revealed in a Texas Tribune, ProPublica and FRONTLINE investigation published last month that found that states require students and teachers to receive far more training to prepare them for a mass shooting than they require for the police.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Proceeding as though there was a barricaded gunman instead of an active shooter is unconscionable. They knew there were still kids alive in those two rooms.

That’s the part I can’t get past. It’s so callous and cruel to KNOW that there are children locked in a space, alive for now, with an armed shooter who is killing people, and say “well, they’re going to die anyway. I’m staying out here and letting that happen.” It makes me so angry.

Gosh. It’s overwhelming already this year how much activity there has been around guns.
I volunteer with Moms Demand Action and I’m our states Be Smart lead (which focuses on safe gun storage). It’s just.. a lot. My state is ranked the worst when it comes to gun laws.
I absolutely feel teachers and administration should not have to be armed - that shouldn’t be the world we live in at all. And I hate it because people shouldn’t HAVE to trained on this topic, but then obviously we need something because this is America and it’s so likely to happen.
I encourage you to research your gun sense politicians and if you have the time, find a Every Town or Moms Demand Action group. I’d be happy to help. I’m in a very red state but our group is SO welcoming and supportive and my favorite part is we have partnered with lawyers who keep us up to date on which politicians support what which has been very helpful.
We’ve also partnered with our secretary of defense and several police departments to spread the Be Smart program. And feel free to ask about the embarrassing story with our secretary of defense that also helped push us more onto his agenda.
