My thoughts: what really stood out to me is the lengths that climate polluters go to get everyone else to fight among themselves instead of directing our ire at them and pressuring them to stop killing us. Some of the things we've discussed on this board: individual choices vs. corporate, flying vs. eating meat, etc. As the title implies, their goal is to delay having to do things as long as possible by whatever means work on different people/groups.
I listened this morning. My takeaway is that he leads with "we need to hold the industries responsible" and then uses "we" (aka collective individuals) throughout the rest of the interview.
I know I'm a broken record, but we need to be looking at this from all angles.
The closest analogy I can make is how we approach racism. We acknowledge that institutional racism exists. That there are large institutions in place, such as the justice system, that need an overhaul. Where it gets sticky is when we start talking about how individuals benefit from the the institutions in place. How white privilege factors into what jobs we have, our individual education, how we are treated on a day to day basis. We can't separate ourselves from the institution, because we ARE the institution. Not talking about how individual choices effect the overall system keeps the institution running.
