DD2 is turning 13 on Monday! She's having a birthday party tomorrow night -- 5 friends at the house, tacos, a cake decorating contest (so I am baking three cakes tomorrow morning, I guess...) and a sleepover. Should be fun. Her friends are nice.
Tonight is Black Excellence Night at my school, so I'm putting on a fancy dress and attending that. It's a great night but man is a social event on a Friday night at the end of a school week a tough ask for an introvert teacher. Both kids are going; not sure about DH.
Sunday is soccer. DD1 has two games (school in the morning, club in the afternoon). DD2 has practice mid-day so that's the whole day.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I took a personal day, let the big kids sleep in. Little one has something special going on at school that he earned barely by the skin of his teeth and everyone was pulling for him to reach the goal, so we are all waiting for him to participate in that and I’ll pick him up after. Heading to Kalihari indoor water park w boyfriend and his son. Has anyone been there? I’ve never done a Great Wolf or anything like that before. Also it’s our first outing with all the kids together. We have all hung out plenty but nothing this long or overnight with his son. My kids are used to bf being here a lot, and I’ve been w his son at his place without my kids.
It was a super hectic week for some reason. I felt like I needed to be in 3 places at once all week long. The kids had Monday off for student-led parent teacher conferences, which were interesting. Then Dh and I had counseling, then DD1 made plans to go to the movies (and have me drive her friends and bring them home - theater was 20 mins away) at the same time that DD2 needed to be at soccer. In between I was jamming work in. The rest of the week just kind of followed suit.
This afternoon I'm picking up DD2 and 3 of her friends at school. They'll hang out here until around 6, when I bring them back to school for a social/dance. DD1 has an away game, and she won't be back until right around the time that the social starts, so she'll just stay there. Dh and I will have the WHOLE HOUSE to ourselves for like 2 HOURS! LOL we will probably binge Netflix.
Saturday DD2 has a basketball game, and then I'm hoping DH and I can grab dinner since this will be out last free Saturday evening until the end of indoor soccer season.
Sunday we have nothing planned. I didn't cook for the week last Sunday and this week turned into a mess, so I'm going to plan on doing that this week. Soup, maybe fajita bowls or something like that.
A personal victory... I made it through Dry January! I also tracked my food every day and I recorded some form of exercise/body movement every single day except for 2. I'm only down 4.5lbs, so I didn't hit my 5lb goal for Jan, but I'm still really proud of myself. I'm trying not to live and die by the scale this time, and I have noticed that my clothes are feeling a little bit looser. Yay!
I have treated myself to Starbucks this morning and will have some sushi for lunch, then finish my day at home, so trying to set the right vibe for a Friday.
Tomorrow night, we have a steak dinner, reverse raffle, silent auction fundraiser. I am super excited. They sold 400 tickets, so most of our friends, acquaintances will be there. I have a new outfit and will force Dh into some decent attire. We won $2800 last year, which we are just now spending on our anniversary trip, so highly unlikely we will win again, but it is still fun to go.

2/3 of the family was sick this week — H is still recovering — but thankfully DD2 never caught it so she’s been able to go to play rehearsals and perform tonight. So that’s our big event tonight. I don’t know if H will be up for it but DD1 and I, some friends, and my parents will all be there to cheer her on. If it doesn’t go too late we will go out for frozen yogurt after.
The weather is supposed to be very nice tomorrow so I’m taking DD2 paddling. DD1 is my usual partner but she is going to a party Saturday night and doesn't want to be “too tired” lol. Max tween. Sunday will just be catching up on all the stuff I would have done if I’d been healthy last weekend.
ILs are visiting this weekend which is a do-over because they had to cancel due to Covid in January. We have 3 games tomorrow and a birthday party. Luckily in a way, the game times are too close together time wise, so we will have to divide and conquer. I think there is a 1 game on Sunday.
I've been fighting a cold/illness all week and today I'm finally starting to come out the other side. I still have some lingering congestion, but I don't feel completely exhausted today, so that's a win.
Tonight I'm going to help DH with a small event and then we'll go out in the city after. Tomorrow I'm getting my hair done and will get caught up on homework and laundry. DH is going out tomorrow night, so I'll enjoy some alone time with snacks and binging TV. I've been getting really into "Call the Midwife" lately. There are so many episodes to get through!

I JUST finished "Call the Midwife" last week - I LOVED it!! Such great characters and good story lines. I think the next season is coming in March? I can't wait!
We actually have our 7 am dentist appts for all 4 kids today (after I thought they were on Wednesday and we showed up to find them closed). Then I’ll work out and then WFH. I have a long to do list of little stuff I’ve been procrastinating on that I really need to do - like still Christmas returns and fill out all the forms to register DD for middle school. And make sure all my work travel plans are good for the next couple weeks - my Texas client just asked me to stay an extra night for dinner so I had to change all my travel plans for next week.
We got a lot of rain yesterday and everyone is so funny about their fields here, so we’ll see what kids sports happen this weekend. I assume DD’s softball practice and flag football scrimmage scheduled for this evening are cancelled, so she’s going to do a futsal intro clinic with her friend. Of course DS1’s baseball coach still wants to have an 8 am baseball practice on pavement tomorrow morning even if the fields are wet - I was kind of looking forward to that being cancelled! We have a few other sports games as well this weekend, but it looks like DD’s softball tournament will be moved for a second time because of the rain. The rain is completely over - our ground just doesn’t absorb it I guess
Dh and ds1 are away at a race this weekend. They made it last night after two cancelled flights and were only 2 hours behind their original time so thankful for that. The little guy and I got in n out for dinner and for the first time ever took advantage of the Rainy day free hot chocolate so that was fun.
This weekend should be chill other than a few errands, some work, and watching dss race online.
I head out to my mom's this afternoon. Flying vs. driving, thankfully. My sister asked if I was staying with her her or in mom's nearly empty house. Mom's of course. There is no where I sleep better than in the house I grew up in. I jokingly told DH we should just buy the house and I'll fly down once a month to get some great sleep.
Its been a crazy week and so many tech issues. Most of our clients are totally understanding and not batting an eye. We have 3 that are throwing a snit about having to come back in and see us.
DD and I leave for the coast in a couple hours. The weather is supposed to be decent, and I can't wait to go walk barefoot on my Oregon beach tonight. We both need the zen of the beach.
mae0111 congratulations on the successful Dry January and weight loss! That's awesome!
Thank you, everyone, who sent their good thoughts my way for my sister. She'd been seven years brain cancer free in July. In November an MRI showed a small growth near her original tumor site. The team decided to monitor for two months. Tuesday's MRI showed it grew and revealed a small tumor in another part of her brain. She's beside herself and not talking with anyone besides her husband. I'm still wrapping my head around this bad turn.
She has surgery to remove the first tumor on Monday and will have the second tumor removed in six weeks.
Fortunately, she's being treated by one of the best brain surgeons in the country, at one of the best brain cancer treatment hospitals....
I could write a book about how this will impact my parents and her kids and husband.
Seeing my kids be kids is keeping me grounded. DD2 has a sleepover with one of her best friends last night. I'm cross country skiing with the kid's mom this morning and the dads are taking the kids alpine skiing this afternoon. I'm taking DD1 to the closest big town to get some additional piercings in her ears. She's using her babysitting money for this. She also needs some better volleyball shoes. I need to get some more clothes for DD2 as well.
Tomorrow is supposed to be really stormy here. I'm going to finish a work project and do some prep cleaning and cooking.
Next week I'll spend Wednesday afternoon with my nephews (sister's kids). I may take a day or two to be with her post surgery. I'm playing this by ear.
campermom, I've never been to either water park you mentioned, but I'm a total little kid in a middle aged lady's body at water parks, so I can only imagine it being totally fun for your and bf's families. Enjoy!!!
It's 50 and sunny with no wind so it feels glorious on the Oregon coast. DD and i woke at 6am, refreshed. Watched the sky turn pink with the sunrise and went for a barefoot beach walk at 8am. Watching friends compete and then plan on beach walking before dinner. Vacation rental is perfect other than a shower issue that maintenance is coming to fix today. I feel so relaxed right now!
It doesn’t feel like it, but we made progress on my mom’s house. I emptied out the room I sleep in, got ready to go and.. flight cancelled. No flights available today from any nearby airport to any airport near home. I’ve got my fingers crossed for my flight tomorrow.. the weather isn’t looking good.
In a turn of luck, right after they rebooked me, someone posted a free night at a Hyatt, so I’ll be relaxing in a cozy room and not having to worry about cleaning up anywhere before heading out to (hopefully!) make my flight.
DH has been having a hell of a time with the kids and I’ve gotten several calls from DD who is ready for me to be back. I’m not too upset about missing the shit show at home. 🤭
k3am what airport do you fly out of? It is super windy in SoCal and I heard LA is supposed to get 10 inches (!) of rain from this upcoming atmospheric river. If I were you I might rent a car and drive first thing tomorrow and try to get out before most of the rain…

BUR generally, but have also looked for LAX. Also flying to SJC, SFO, or OAK (if it lands in daylight hours. I hate Oakland.)
I did consider driving, but just driving on I-5 from my moms to the hotel felt really unsafe (we passed 3 pretty bad accidents in about 7 miles), can’t imagine what the 300+ mile drive in this weather would be like.
Work recently took away our vacation cash in and told us to use the time instead, soooooo.. sorry dudes, can’t work.
k3am a work contact of mine just got his luggage stolen out of his rental car while at a gas station near OAK. The perpetrators used brass knuckles to break the back window and grab it. Which prompted all kinds of scary Oakland stories from other people. He sent us the video and it was definitely a coordinated crime that apparently happens all the time there.
ETA - wow, I just read some NYTimes coverage of the rainstorm in LA and SF. We haven’t had any rain since Friday morning in north country San Diego, so I had no idea it was already so bad just a couple hours north. Stay safe!

Pretty sure Oakland coined the phrase “bip” for that - I t’s really impressive how fast they can bip a car and get away. And the fact that police wont (or can’t) do anything because of how things are here, so they get away with it.
The rain and wind here have been nasty. I’m 50% sure my mom’s crawl space will flood based on how it looked when I left if it doesn’t let up, and she doesn’t have any kind of drainage or pumps.

It’s been crazy today in the Bay Area. Nonstop rain, high winds, Downed trees and power lines all over. Our sump pump has been flushing consistently. Dh and ds are on their last flight home now and I know they wouldn’t send the plane if it wasn’t safe but I can’t sleep knowing they haven’t landed yet….45 more minutes.
