I’m happy to see this but I just feel like the Supreme Court is bought and paid for so he’ll still continue to get away with everything like he always does. If the Supreme Court denies him immunity then I will celebrate, but I have no faith in the Supreme Court at all at this point.

My bet is it goes 5-4. Kagan, Jackson, and Sotomayor are obviously going to uphold it. Roberts will uphold it because he’ll recognize that his legacy as Chief Justice hinges on this. And having read many of his judicial decisions for school recently I think Gorsuch will also uphold it and he’ll be the deciding vote. I fundamentally disagree with him a lot of the time, but he actually is a solid jurist unlike certain other colleagues and has written things that I was surprisingly impressed with.
I mean, Trump's lawyers were literally arguing that he could order the military to assassinate a political rival and he would be immune from ANY prosecution unless impeached by Congress first. So the idea that it could come down to a single vote in SCOTUS seems like a terrifying thin line for democracy.
Because, sure, you kill off a politician and that will have NO effect at all on whether a bunch of other politicians are willing to do anything against you. By that argument, you could just assassinate enough of your political enemies in Congress to make sure they CAN'T impeach you. Jesus, this argument basically says that our Constitution sets us up for dictatorship.
Trump is taking notes on this, guaranteed. He already sicc'd his mob on the Capitol hoping that violence would keep him in office and said he could kill someone himself and suffer no consequences.

I think the SC will choose not to take on the case and go with the ruling from the district court. In 2021 only three judges (Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch) wanted to hear the election fraud cases. They know as well as anyone what will happen if they go against the current ruling. If you read the document from the entire federal appeals court it is crystal clear why they unanimously voted to deny blanket immunity.

Also, IF they would take the case AND rule in Donnie's favor, Biden can say, okay I have absolute immunity as the current sitting President, so I'm going to take the conservatives off the SC and install my own picks. Right? They would shoot themselves in the foot if they would rule in his favor.
