I agree multiple things can be true. Democracy to me is critical. He was fighting a man who does not believe in democracy..
Trump is anti-democracy at this point (and his views have changed over time). So while people can share views that we may disagree with, the ability for people to have a say in who has power is paramount to me.
No, he wasn't. He was basically Russian Trump without the corruption.
I think he was complicated. A lot of his views were abhorrent for sure. But he kept banging the drum about the corruption in Russia knowing it would likely get him imprisoned or killed and he did it anyway.
I'm not saying we should treat him as if he were Nelson Mandela or anything, but I don't think calling him heroic is out of line.

I think complicated is the right word. He certainly did heroic acts in standing up to Putin, getting poisoned by nerve agents and surviving, and going back despite that. Would he be better than Putin? Ehhh…idk probably not.
I feel like it’s akin to comparing Trump and DeSantis. Many same views, one is smarter and smoother at going about it

He is definitely complex. An ultranationalist wannabe dictator who also opposed Putin and continued journalism. He's not a hero, but he's not a demon. Life is messy.
I had some atlantic links somewhere, but I think they're outdated.
