I went to my kiddos “conferences” last night. It’s all in the school gym or cafeteria. You just show up and wait for your teachers. If you need a translator, it’s a very long wait. We ended up speaking with just one teacher (home room/math) because it’s as much of a shitshow as you can imagine. Lol.
I’m doing a scavenger hunt at work. I’m trying to decide how I want to do it. Hide pics with a QR code they randomly find, do a treasure map, or a lot of clues. I’m thinking a list of clues? Idk but I need to figure it out soon. I’m working with students services to bring some fun back to our campus. We did a Photo Booth for Valentine’s Day and Chinese new year, and that was fun.
H is "sick". Send help. LOL. He said his throat felt scratchy last night. I told him to gargle with warm salt water. He told me it wasn't a sore throat, just scratchy. Ok. When he got up this morning I asked him how he was feeling and he said "shitty, I'm thinking about calling into work". I was surprised he was feeling that sick to take a day off. (he has limited sick days and works from home) So he then accused me of being unsympathetic and was all butthurt. I told him only he knows how sick he is and if he's really feeling terrible he should take the day... just that I was surprised he was considering taking the day off for a scratchy throat. And that you always feel the worst when you first wake up and maybe he should drink some tea, take Dayquil and see how he feels in an hour. So that's what he's doing. He doesn't have a fever and Covid test was negative.
I took a proper shower last night with actual body wash (see yesterday's random).
I am still irrationally annoyed they remade Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. That movie is a classic and should remain as such.
E's school team got 3rd last night out of all the other elementary schools in the county! They were so excited! This was the first year of this type of event and they are trying to bring in more STEM and community partners from elementary to high school. Each participant got a wooden coin that was part of a design contest at the high school level and a one year membership to the museum. Then another set of high schoolers had 3D printed in their engineering classes the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, trophies. It was an really well put together event and all the kids had a lot of fun.

I told my boss that technically as a salaried employee, we don't get paid to work on Leap Day, and asked to go home (jokingly). Sadly, I'm still working. But hey, it's Employee Appreciation Week so we get Pizza and cookies today. Whomp whomp

bex1973 I never gave thought to that! I will take that as my excuse to do the bare minimum today haha.
I slept like crap last night. Woke up at 3am with heartburn and didn't want to leave the bedroom to get the Tums because the dogs would get going, so I just laid there and tried to go back to sleep. Gave up at 6am and got up. Today is gonna suck.
AKA - the day us salaried folks work for free womp womp... LOL
At least it's a WFH day and the sunshine is gorgeous even if it's cold! These temp swings are getting to me a bit
Huh, I never thought of that before!
It is way too early, but my allergies feel like they are coming on already. Everything just feels itchy, my eyes, nose and skin. It is driving me nuts!

So if you post on Facebook today, do you only get to see that post in your memories every 4 years or will it show up on 2/28 or 3/1 in subsequent years?

Our dog was super whiny and weird all night and it didn't register to me or DH that it could be something like diarrhea ALL OVER THE HOUSE. DH of course had a 7am dentist appointment so I was left with the carpet machine trying to clean an upholstered chair, the couch, a rug, carpet in DS2's room and starting laundry since it was all over DS2's comforter. Strangely, it didn't smell at all, so I'll take that as a silver lining.. except more could be lurking in places I didn't find this morning. I found the bag of treats he got into, so there's no mystery as to why he has an upset tummy. He's such a good dog 99% of the time.. every now and then he reminds us that he is, in fact, a dog. Neither of us could stay home so the dog is enjoying a day locked in the half bath where he can't ruin anything.
My mom, DD, and I were hoping to get to London/Paris this summer to visit my sister, who would travel from where she lives in Berlin to vacation with us. I pieced together an amazing multi-city deal yesterday and we got it all booked, out of our local airport into London, back home to our local airport out of Paris, great flight times, it was an American Airlines miracle. Today the price doubled, which is my definition of thrilling. Now I can get excited.
DD desperately wants to see if we can swing seeing Taylor Swift while we're in Europe... I don't think the resale market is as insane as here, so I'll see if I can figure that out. TS will be in Madrid and Lyon while we're overseas.. I think the Lyon dates would be easiest for us to possibly make happen...anyone have any insight? From what I've gathered so far, I think the only valid resale is through Ticketmaster and only a few weeks before the show.
Monday morning I was swimming in the Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica, it was like 78 at 7:30am, and would by 95 by the time we were flying home in the afternoon.
We came home and it was like 55-60. Ok.
This morning I got up to run and it was 23, "feels like 12."

@@@@ DD was up at 4 a.m. I am exhausted. I really wish I knew what triggers/how to fix her speech loops. From 4:00 a.m. until the bus came at 7:45 a.m. she was scripting "goodbye and Thank you" Over and Over AND OVER! I wound up using her noise canceling headphones, because nothing I was doing was helping it and I was going mad. On the other hand, I have a meeting with her case worker, case manager, teacher, and 2 potential respite care workers this afternoon. So fingers crossed I can get this crap ironed out. I have been working on respite care since May of last year. still nothing. Man the state is slow at everything. I hate the government. I just need childcare so I can work during the summer people.

Fuck all of this, I'm going back!
My morning walk with the dogs was painful. Now they're laying in a sunspot on the floor and I want to lay next to them just to warm up. I'm done with winter.
My dog somehow smells a little like skunk - I don't think he got sprayed, but must have rubbed up on something that had been sprayed? The smell kind of comes and goes. I gave him a bath Tuesday night that seemed to help, but today I feel like I can smell it again. He was just professionally groomed a week ago so this is extra annoying!
Cold here today too. I took the car over for an oil change and since it's a place within walking distance, I walked home. It was definitely uncomfortable walking back - and windy. The windy was crazy last night, and it's better today but still cold wind.
I am leaving for Italy for my class two weeks from tomorrow and I'm getting nervous. Not about the travel, just about being with a bunch of virtual strangers for 10 days. Nothing I haven't done before, but this time I'm a LOT older than most of them so I'm a little worried about the generational gap. They are all grad students but I think a lot of them are in their mid twenties. I just don't want to spend the whole trip taking social media photos, lol. At least the professor is a peer age-wise so I look forward to getting to know him better, he seems like a really cool person.
Normally today is my enjoy the quiet day since my husband is in office but the fancy cupcake bakery is re-releasing some “retired” flavors for Leap Day so I think I am going to drive up there to get them and pick up some lunch. Plus one of the dogs is very upset by the noisy wind banging branches into the house and I want to get away from her lol

My MBA Costa Rica trip isn't until the middle of May, but I'm definitely worrying about that aspect too. And that I'm not going to be able to keep up with them on the little hikes we do, and wearing a swim suit on our beach day.
We have to wait for the professor to book her flight, then we can book ours. It's making me crazy to keep waiting, I know prices are going to start going up and up.
I forgot how to put it in neutral and had to google it. I'll wash the car in the driveway from now on.
This is absolutely something I'd do, or be worried about so I'd be all panicky and just not go. Yay anxiety .
I never thought of leap day as an unpaid workday!
I'm going to our school district's budget forum today because our school budget has been cut in half from last year (the numbers are a bit untrustworthy but if I go by what we've been given, it's a $6 million cut). Any suggestions on how to get the state government to allocate more $ to schools instead of taking it away (to give to early childhood education, which I support, but not at the cost of other students).

Bear with me because I feel very dumb right now (and have been thinking about this since I saw a FB reel earlier this week).
My last job was a salaried position. I was paid biweekly, so every 2 weeks I was paid $xxxx. Each year I'd get 26 paychecks and one day would go towards the start of the next pay period. On the off chance there were 27 pay periods a year (like 53 fridays) I got a 27th check worth $xxxx so my w2 would be higher than my salaried amount/previous years (excluding raises). In leap year, there would be 52 weeks + 2 days and 2 days would apply to the next year's paycheck (so you'd only need to work 12 days before payday instead of 13). I'm simplifying but does that make sense?
My question - the salary employees that are working for free: are you only paid monthly or bimonthly that it doesn't capture that there's an extra day if work this year?

I only thought about not getting paid, or getting paid less today (leap day) because my husband's in shift work and I've seen questions in FB groups about how they handle it. I saw a few places that actually have people take turns (shifts can be up to 24 hours) so no one gets stuck with an extra day. *sigh* I wish I could do that.
I feel bad I can't make it to DH's aunt/Godmother's funeral today. I've gone back and forth, but it's about an hour away, and the mass is at 10:30 AM so I'd miss pretty much the whole work day. From what I've heard from the family she didn't want a big to-do, so I think she'd be ok with me saving PTO and seeing her family on a day off when things calm down. There's a lot of family drama though that I worry will cause a lot of comments about why my IL's aren't there (they have health stuff), but grief does that to people I guess.
Finally, my company announced today that we'll get summer Fridays again this year (yeah!) and actually confirmed the end of year shut down, which usually they don't do until early Nov. This is fantastic to pre-plan, however the silly leap year has the shut down Wed 12/25 (Christmas Day) through Wed NY Day I think (they haven't released the 2025 calendar yet), so now I have to decide if I want to hang on to limited PTO even longer to fight for either Mon - Tues of the first, or Thurs and Fri of the second week, although that starts a new PTO bucket. Ugh I hate leap years on so many levels (calendar issues.)*
*ETA: I know the privilege in having any time off at the end of the year. This is only the second time I'll have more than Christmas and NY day off in over 14 years. I only have about 10 PTO days left for the whole year, and wasn't planning on needing any time last week or two of the year, so this means something else will have to go, or I miss a Christmas Eve gathering if we're invited.
