We had a super busy weekend, but it was a lot of fun!
Friday evening DH and I went out to a nice dinner at a really good Italian restaurant as a late celebration of his birthday. It was good to connect after a couple of really busy weeks.
Saturday we had DD2's friend birthday party - 12 girls at a day glow splatter paint party. It was loud and super fun - the kids wore ponchos and goggles and painted canvases and each other. We came home and DD2 went to watch a basketball game with her friend, and then she had a 7pm indoor soccer game.
Sunday was just working around the house and errands all day. DD1 had a friend over. I cleaned out 3 closets, did a ton of laundry, cooked a little, and took the dog for a 4 mile walk.
I was annoyed because I had to pick up some embroidered items at the printer for work, and the project has been a total debacle from the start. They assured me that everything was done and put in a pick up area for me after weeks of back and forth and delays... so I drove over there on Sunday afternoon and only 1/2 of the order was there. So I grabbed it and went home. Printer called me later and apologized, saying he forgot to put out a second box, offered to bring it to my house and I said no because he talks SO MUCH and I could not have him here for an hour chatting.
This week is already crazy. I drove the kids to school, raced home to clean up a bit, back to school to pick up DD1 and take her to a follow up orthopedic appt for her fractured ankle, back to school. I'm home now and leaving shortly for a counseling session with DH (which has been super helpful). Back home to work for a few hours before pickup. DD1 has PT, I have 2 dr appts, arts night at school, soccer practice, kids each have telehealth counseling and separate med maintenance appointments. My paper calendar is totally full and very messy LOL.
Our weekend was low key. The girls stayed with us to recover from flu and strep instead of going back to their dad's house. They have the whole basement to themselves here with their own bathroom so it just made more sense vs. cramming their sick selves into bunk beds at dad's apartment. By Sunday they were finally feeling better and we were all stir crazy, so DH and I took them out for brunch. It's always fun when we get to hang out with the kids separately instead of all three together like usual. Thankfully they went off to school feeling much better today. Just some lingering coughs at this point, but there's not much we can do about that unfortunately.
This week will be busy! I leave on Sunday for my big work trip/event, so it's the last minute home stretch right now. I have a few other work projects to try and wrap up before I leave. I need to organize myself and pack. DD1 has a band concert on Thursday night. DS has a Destination Imagination competition on Saturday. Today I have a doctor's appointment and tomorrow I get my hair done. So many little things to cram in!
Today I'm really enjoying a Spotify playlist called "Free and Easy." It's all the music my parents always listened to when I was a kid. It's giving me major flashbacks to my dad singing along to the radio in the car and me choosing which cassette tapes we'd listen to on road trips.
I. Am. Tired. We had a great time at the dance Saturday, but my feet still hurt and we stayed out way too late. Dd has all of her supplies ready for her trip.
Busy week. Dh and I are going to hit golf balls tonight because he got a new driver, then grab some burgers. I have a meeting all day tomorrow in another city about 2 hrs away, so a long, early day for me. Plus all the regular. I did finally finish the last of 5 really large assessments, strategic plan, performance management type reports that fell behind while my position was vacant during Covid, so that's nice.

We had a crazy weekend. My SIL decided to drive up the morning of the show we had planned to see with her oldest kids and my oldest kids for one of the kids birthdays, instead of coming the day before. She would have just gotten here in time but her van broke down. So H and I drove to her, he took her and the littlest and sorted the van, I took the older kids to the show (made it with 4 minutes to spare!), and then they stayed the weekend. She is still out a van — it’s a warranty issue but still, bad luck.
I got a small, unexpected but welcome, bonus this year and I think it’ll be enough to cover most of a winter vacation. H and I want to take the girls to Northern California — I know it’s not ideal weather-wise during December but that’s when we could go — and are tossing around the idea of a winter trip to Yosemite Valley. Cue two lifelong Floridians trying to figure out chain requirements …
mae0111 , I'm so glad your DD2 had a fantastic birthday! Glow splatter parties sound like so much fun twinmomma , I'm checking out the "Free and Easy" playlist today. My father always played easy listening music in his dental office and that genre gives me a lot of nostalgia.
This weekend was good until around 8:00 last night...
A HUGE blizzard came through our area. It started Thursday night and didn't let up until last night. Extremely strong winds and over six feet of snow kept us homebound. I braced myself for the D's fighting and melting down out of boredom all weekend. They were actually really good. DD1 gave herself a schedule to combine homework, screen time, exercise and sax practice. She stuck to it. DD2 watched a ton of TV, but couldn't go outside nor could I take her anywhere because of the weather, so, I relented to screen time limits. I was able to get a lot of cleaning done, work on some writing (a hobby) and catch up on work. H spent 4+ hours each day snow blowing (not the 80's party kind!) and I hauled a ton of wood for our fire place. We got out for a few walks with the dog, when winds died down.
Things sort of crashed about 8:00 last night. The girls stayed in good spirits, so that's a win. However, H, attempting to move his truck, got it stuck in the snow. Then the cover completely blew off of our (outdoor) hot tub. The hot tub had stopped working over the weekend, so this was another strike against us. Then, the hot water heater, which has been on the fringes for the past week, completely broke. So...we're without a hot tub (okay, total first world problem), without hot water and still marginally snowed in. H is in a bad place because of all of this. His workload is adding to his misery. As he explained to me last night, none of these things are completely awful in themselves, but, combined, they're entirely burdensome.
The hot water heater and hot tub are due for replacement. We were thinking of replacing both this year, but not simultaneously. I could totally go without the hot tub, but H and the Ds love it....
This week starts with another snow day today. Ds are home. I'm going to see if a few neighborhood kids want to play with DD2. DD1 has tryouts for a competitive volleyball club this afternoon. Most of me really hope she makes it. Part of me would be happy if she didn't and was up for playing in a more laid back rec league. Either league is 45+ minutes from our home, but travelling like this is just reality for where we live.
Work should be pretty low key for me this week. Not so much for H.

We woke up to a little bit of snow this morning, but luckily the roads are clear and school wasn't affected. They've already had 3 snow days so far this year.
The weekend was pretty good. I was a little annoyed with Beau on Friday. His DIL was dropping off his grandson at his work at 3:30 and then was going to come home. At 4 he texted that they were off to Best Buy and would be home after. Then I got a text to not worry about dinner, they were getting McDonalds. Later was a text that his son and grandson were playing on the new computer that Beau had traded stereo equipment for and gave it to his son. When he finally got home at 9, he had the audacity to ask what DS and I had done. We had just hung out around the house because we kept thinking they'd be home. DS and I would have gone and done something together if I knew they were going to be late.
Saturday we just hung out around the house. I went to pick up pizza and tried out the Too Good to Go app for the first time at a local bakery. For $5, I got a box with 4 fancy cupcakes and a turnover, which I added up would have been $20 if I had purchased them separately. I highly recommend the app to try different places at a reduced cost. I wish more options were available in my rural area. Sunday was my dad's birthday, so we went to my parents' house for dinner. It was nice to see my aunt that I hadn't seen in a while.
Our weekend is better. My mom has developed some bad habits, that I am hoping this illness has reset. One of them was drinking alcohol to fall asleep, but my sister said she hasn't drank in 3 weeks and slept fine on the trip, so obviously it isn't needed. The other one was taking too much medication for her Crohns disease. She said she asked her doctor, but I think she did not. So anyway, doctor weighed in again, said they did not understand or approve her question, and she is back on track with that, so I am hoping that she will continue with these better habits since those other ones can cause long term health affects. She seems recovered from Covid and altitude sickness, but needs more testing for sleep apnea, liver and lungs.
We had 4 games this weekend, but Sundays were all in the morning, so we had the afternoon to rest and relax which was nice. We've been doing way too many sports lately. DS is trying out for school soccer, and I kind of hope he makes it and doesn't make it at the same time because it will be practices every day and 2 practices a day for Mon and Wed if school games don't interfere and don't get me started on if it involves weekends.
I forgot my lunch at home. Which isn't a big deal most places, but we have nowhere good nearby to pick something up and I'm trying to save money and eat less junk anyways. I figured I'd leave at 2, avoid traffic, eat my lunch late, but now I'm on a call at 2 and the way the rest of the day lines up, I'm going to be a hangry cranky monster all afternoon. I at least have some nuts and cheese to hopefully help tide me over. If not, thoughts and prayers for anyone who crosses me.
Ds1 and Dh were out of state at a race this weekend and it didn’t go well but everyone is safe and the stuff is repaired so physically okay but majorly bummed and disappointed. They leave for another out of state race on the red eye Tuesday night so hoping it goes better.
Ds2 and I had a nice low key weekend with two play dates and a haircut. I was able to catch up on laundry and house stuff, order groceries and clean my car after a coffee disaster.
We also slept in because last week was crazy at work but somehow I feel more tired today. Working until 2-3am didn’t used to affect me as much as it does now. One late night and I’m toast for 3-4 days now.

Our weekend was quiet. I went out with a friend for brunch yesterday, it was nice.
My mom had knee replacement surgery earlier today and it went well. Now onto recovery!
We also got notified that DS got into the gifted program at the junior high closest to our house. He was guaranteed a spot in a gifted program somewhere in the city, but it's such a relief to know that he got a spot in a school that's only a 10 minutes drive from our house.
I'm having a Monday. Copy machine/printer is on the fritz and I called company for support and now waiting for them to come at some point.
My uncle is back in Ohio. It was crazy few day visit and I felt like it was a disaster. Both my mom and sister were being extra and said something that hurt my feelings and just had me going momma bear on them. DD said it was weird hanging out with an adult she doesn't really know and that he was quiet. DH was also just a crank pot the entire time because we were hanging with family instead of being at home.
We had some off and on rain/drizzle over the weekend, so baseball and softball were canceled. DS3 did have his baseball game Friday night and arena soccer game Saturday, and DD had her flag football game Friday night (she is QB and had 7 completions out of 8 passes - I was a proud mom). DD and I went to IKEA Sunday and got new kitchen chairs. DS3 puked on me Sunday night but it turned out to be from eating too much and then going on spinny playground rides and he was still fine to go to school Monday.
I had my tummy tuck today, which had been planned since October. My main motivation was that after having four kids and having a super short torso, I had some stretched out skin and found wearing pants really uncomfortable. Even really stretchy pants - anything with a waistband. I work out a lot and I’m in pretty good shape but that skin wasn’t going to go away without surgery. I figure I hope to live many more decades and want to be able to comfortable wear pants
Anyway, the surgery itself went well. But I guess my eyes were super duper dry when I came out of anesthesia, and I thought my eyelashes were in them so tried to wipe them out, and ended up scratching my eyes and causing a corneal abrasion. I am annoyed at the anesthesiologist and nurses for not saying ‘hey, your eyes might be super dry after the procedure - try not to rub them.’ Or just putting drops in them preemptively. Apparently this issue is not uncommon.
But OMG it was such excruciating pain and I couldn’t open my eyes most of the day. Thank god they started to feel better this evening. I think it’s probably a combo of starting to heal, the prescription eye drops they called in when I called them and cried and told them how much it fucking hurt - yes I cursed and actually cried on the phone , and the fact that I’m on hydrocodone for the tummy tuck. But the eye pain was so bad this morning that the hydrocodone alone wasn’t helping.
So anyway, once I got past that I feel pretty good. I’m at my parents’ condo and they’ve been super helpful, and DH is holding down the fort with the four kids and puppy at home and checking in on me. I am fine hobbling to the bathroom on my own, and I’m eating small amounts and well hydrated and sleeping pretty well. I have a follow up appt tomorrow morning (well, today I guess since it’s midnight west coast time as I write this). I’m generally not great at making myself rest but am going to try really hard to do so.
