Ugh yes it is horrible. I’ve been to Haiti a few times and loved all the people there. Went to beautiful beaches a few times. Unfortunately, one of the acquittances I had there that I would talk with a few times a year on Skype was murdered several years ago. He was a huge fixture in his community. A lot of history behind why Haiti is in the place it’s in today A friend that lives in Port au prince even asked me recently if I would sponsor him, his wife and daughter to try to be able to move here because they felt so unsafe. Ugh.

Thanks for sharing the article.
have you read the all souls rising trilogy? I read the first about 20 years ago, and I'm more reading the other 2 now.
I grew up among Haitian immigrants, have limited creole ability, but that book taught me so much more.
Also, fuck trump again. He refused med evac from the worst Atlantic hurricane on the basis they might be Haitian since no one had paperwork (hurricanes will do that). A friend since infancy suffered a broken spine and barely made it to the states for treatment.
I know that's not relevant to this post, but I'll not miss a moment to say fuck trump and his racism.

This is so sad. The exploitation by other countries, repeated natural disasters, political instability, and, of course, the roles Americans and Europeans have played throughout history - from enslavement to military occupation - have really fucked Haiti over. I don’t even know what the solution is.
Yes the people in Haiti were so hospitable and loved touringus through their schools and neighborhoods. It all seems so hopeless. Haiti can not catch a break.
The situation there is so tragic & I hate that it's basically in our backyard, yet America isn't really doing much to help the people of Haiti, especially given the attention to the issues in Ukraine and Gaza.
I have been following this a bit. It is heartbreaking to think of all the hits that Haiti keeps getting dealt. And I agree with neverfstop, the lack of support, attention and sympathy for Haiti is very clearly due to race.
