I finished The Lost Book of the Grail by Charlie Lovett, 3* (this book was really slow and not much happens, but I still enjoyed the book for the most part).
I'm currently reading Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson.
QOTW: I enjoy having the extra hours of sunlight in the afternoon and I usually wake naturally before the sun anyway so I'd go for dark later in the morning.
I finished The Other Valley by Scott Alexander Howard, which I really enjoyed. Definitely not going to be a crowd pleaser but the concept was just fascinating. I just started The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton, which is apparently sea-faring horror-ish?
QOTW: I prefer morning light. My job starts early and it’s so miserable when I’ve been at work an hour and the sun is just barely rising. Evening light is lovely for the one week I’m at the beach or somewhere else on vacation, but I don’t get out much otherwise.
All the Sinners Bleed by SA Cosby This was a solid and engaging mystery. I'd definitely read a sequel if they decide to write one.
Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer I enjoyed this so much more than expected! I almost skipped it because of the romance element but the book didn't take itself at all seriously and was so much fun. I'm really excited to read the next book in the series when it comes out.
I've also been listening to Slayers: A Buffyverse Story It's really more of a radio play than an audiobook but it's on Audible so I am counting it. It has a lot of the original cast and it's fun revisiting the characters but it's really just okay in terms of plot.
QOTW: I hate both but I would pick dark in the morning. I really like being able to sit out in the sunshine and read in the early evening when the weather allows, it helps me turn my work brain off.

Everything I'm reading right now is crazy long, so I'm still listening to The Jasad Heir and reading Every Rising Sun.
I got a Skip-the-line copy of Heaven and Earth Grocery Store from my library, so I'm listening to that also.
QOTW: In honor of the upcoming time change, would you rather have it be dark longer in the morning or earlier in the evening? dark longer the morning. I like having more light at night and it makes being on the road in the evenings easier because by me, dark = everyone dubbing 15 miles under speed limit.
I just finished Listen for the Lie and can’t figure out why everyone is calling it a five-star book. No one was likable, the writing was basic, and it is another run-of-the-mill thriller with a main character who makes the world’s dumbest decisions.
I also read Mrs. Quinn’s Rise to Fame, which I enjoyed, and the World Famous Nine, which was fun for Middle Grade March. The setting of that one would make for a fun kids’ movie.
QOTW: I hate all darkness, but I’ll take morning darkness if I have to pick one. I am tired of hibernating at night. I want to be outside more again.
My reading has been slow this week thanks to some persistent pink eye but I've been working on Wellness. I'm really liking it!
QOTW: I wish we had DST always. I don't like starting work in the dark, but I dislike it getting dark early more. I feel like I can't do anything after work when it's dark an hour later!
Serpent and Dove - Shelby Mahurin - this was fine. Slow burn witches in france. sure. I went ahead and got the next book (Blood and Honey) from Libby and I think I'm going to DNF it. It's bad. The slow burn resolved at the end of book 1 and now it's just...weird and cheesy and the tone is wildly inconsistent and the characterization keep veering wildly all over the place. And the plot makes no sense. Just like, no redeeming qualities at all.
Clockwork Boys & The Wonder Engine (Clocktaur War #1 & #2), T Kingfisher. Really liked this. These are solid 4 stars for me.
To Shape a Dragon's Breath, Moniquill Blackgoose - really loved this and I'm mad only one book is out. I didn't realize it was a newer book. I'm a sucker for "kids at magical school" books, and this one is lovely. Native, anti-colonial, queer POV with dragons and a pretty unique magic system.
Started Atomic Habits. Just for proof that sometimes i do read things that aren't fantasy. So far i like it more than I thought I would, but it's still a effort to make myself pick it back up when I could be riding a dragon. Feels like work.
QOTW: I run early, so last week the sun was rising during my run and now I'm back to pitch black which stinks. BUT it stays late long enough to do something outside after work. So...I dunno. Pros and cons I guess. I wish it didn't change though. just stinking pick one.
