This! They told everyone not to expect to see her until after Easter. Why not just repeat that until after Easter? I don't get it. There didn't need to be a photo!

The social media frenzy was the direct result of shit communication from the palace combined with the overall shittiness of many members of the Royal Family.    I don't see it as all that different from the speculation about Melania's extended absenses from public life over the years.

Maybe if Kate and William had shown themselves to be decent people with respect to everything that happened with Meghan, none of this would have happened.  And the messaging was completely in their control. William could have spoken publicly saying that his wife, who he loves, is dealing with some private health matters and follow up issues from the surgery, and for the sake of the children, they will be keeping a lower profile for a few months, but chose instead to basically disappear, only to let the palace write cryptic press releases and blame his wife for bad photoshopping.  They made their choices.

As it is, I cannot understand the reasoning beyond having her make that announcement by herself without William by her side.  So I do not expect the rumors about their marriage to stop.  This was their choice.

Surely these people have money to hire a professional PR person.

Anyway, that all said, nobody* should have to deal with cancer, and I hope that her treatments are successful and that the children are ok.

*except Trump of course because those days he had COVID were the best days ever on Twitter and I'm gonna need more schadenfreude to get through this election.

She looked very exposed to me. She was poised, as always, but normally she looks very relaxed in front of the camera, and yesterday she didn’t. Of course, she was disclosing a major health diagnosis which she would have preferred to keep private. But it felt like she was reading words that someone else had written. Not forced, maybe, but strained.*

*of course she had every right to feel strained, stressed, angry, sad, etc about having to make that announcement yesterday, but it felt somehow different than just health stress. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

Apparently she wrote the entire video script herself. But yeah, I’m sure this is a very hard time for her and her family. I wouldn’t trade places with her for anything. It seems she also released the video within hours of the start of her kids’ Easter school break so they wouldn’t have to deal with hearing things at school.
