So, I fell down the rabbit hole of reading trashy European gossip publications today while I was catching up on the newest Kate Middleton development.

@ Today I learned that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, met his wife when he was 15 years old. She was a teacher at his high school. Today he is 46 years old and she is 70 years old.

Also, conservative commentators are now doing a smear campaign by claiming that she used to be a man. (I know, had a similar smear campaign about Michelle Obama.)

Yes, the age difference/questions about what went on when he was a minor has been Le Scandale for a long time. I think it's just another of those things that the French are more casual about.

There will always be a gross double standard about adult women who groom minor boys.

I have no idea when they started dating and how far removed it was from when she was in a position of power over him, but society generally doesn't care unless they want to be misogynistic about desiring an older women.
