But if all you need is the headline to say the pope is not a shining moral authority, good enough for me.

I had high hopes for Pope Francis when he was elected.

I read his remarks in the interview. The questions and answers. I thought about what he might be meaning. It’s all very … lofty? good in theory? Uhm?

What I mostly thought is how much I don’t really care what a very old man in his late 70’s or 80’s thinks. Even a well educated one, a thoughtful one.

I hardly think this is controversial.

But here we are. Reading about what very old men in power say.

So, why no comments to or about Russia? 

Then again, the papacy doesn't exactly have a strong history of standing up for what's right and good.

I, too, had hopes this guy would be mildly better, but I never had hope he was the old guy who would drag the church kicking and screaming into the mid 20th century.
