I wonder, with both him and Ken Buck, what the primary reason for getting out is. If it is more disfunction and frustration with other senators, the system, etc. or harassment/ beat down etc. from constituents, media and social media.

I know Ken Buck faced some unreasonable constituents (landlord evicting his local office) after not falling in line on the speaker vote around the time he announced he was done. I wonder if they get harassed in the chamber for being more willing to compromise constantly.
