hi hi. i've been on adderallxr 20mg for 3 years, consistently, but i don't take it on weekends. yesterday after i picked up my rx from my new dr in NYC and she prescribed me IR. same dosage, but instant release. i'm a little afraid of it tbh. i still have a week left of my meds because i don't take them when i'm not working/needing to get shit done. should i take it back to her and ask for xr? or just try the IR and see if it works?
i have to admit i'm a bit med aversive because of my family history of drug abuse, so i take things like this a little more seriously than most (i also have ocd/gad, yay!)
so, what say ye? try or contact dr tuesday when she is in next?
i just counted my xr's. i have 12 extra for the month because i don't take them on the weekends. i'm just now realizing how much my ex dipped into my meds. what a schmuck.
If she didn't talk to you about switching, I would go back to the dr and ask for xr.
I never tried xr and ir didn't really work for me, so I don't have very specific help. But, I do know the dosing schedule for ir requires some care. So, unless you guys intentionally decided to switch, why deal with that when you have a solution that works for you?

If xr has worked for you, I would call back and get them switched.
Essentially IR releases all medicine right when you take it. XR has some that release right away and then have a "coating" around others so they are in your system later. So you get the medicine in your system at more than one time.

I've always needed the XR to get through my entire work day.
At point there was a shortage of Xr and I had to get IR at a lower dosage to take multiple times a day and it was awful. I have ADD, there's no way I can be relied on to remember to take medicine 3x a day. And if I took the full dose at once I had the shakes and my eye was twitchy.

I don’t have adhd, but in general if your doctor sent the wrong prescription (or the pharmacy filled it incorrectly) then I would definitely go back and ask for the correct prescription.
DS is actually super crabby on XR, so he is on IR by my preference. The doctor said he sees that sometimes , just some people react differently. I don't get that, but that's where he is with it.
My H was also taking IR due to the shortage for a little while. He didn't have any complaints, just had to put another alarm on his phone. He is now on generic vyvanse though.
But yeah, I'd contact the doc. If you're happy with XR and there isn't a shortage right now then I think I would want to keep everything the same.
100% go back and ask for it to be corrected. I've been on (anti seizure meds) for most of my life. Only a few times has a dr sent the wrong meds to be filled. I've had amazing pharmacists catch the mistakes. You don't know what the med change will do to your body so I'd never do that without the dr specifically going over why they recommend the switch happen and monitoring you for side effects.
