It's only 2am or earlier in the US but it's 7 here in Rome and I'm waiting for a train so I'll start them today! Hope everyone had a good weekend.
I'm heading home today, which I'm sure will be a long day. It's been a long week, but I ended up having so much fun and meeting so many just wonderful people. My study abroad class was very light on instruction - the professor was really weird the way he handled most things on this trip. But I got 3 credits for what essentially felt like a vacation and other than writing an assignment to wrap things up, I'm done with my degree!
It's sad leaving a group thing like this because you get really close to people traveling and then you know you are probably not going to see most of them again. The guy who lives locally to me that I hung out with constantly on this trip will hopefully continue to be a friend, but he is also 24 so lol, we shall see. I also met a woman who was the trip coordinator who I really clicked with and feel like could be a close friend if she didn't currently live in Mexico. I am the saddest about that goodbye, why do so many of the people I feel the most connected with have to live so far away!

wildrice - ❤️ I’m glad you had such a good time and connected with so many new friends.
The fun thing about having friends in other locations is you can visit each other! I have several friends here, but most of my friends live 100s or 1000s of miles away. We don’t get to hang out as often as I’d like, but when we do, we make up for lost time. I hope that you find that you’re able to stay in touch and continue to grow those friendships.
This is the first full day of having the house to myself until Thursday while DH and the kids are off on various spring break trips. I took off work (mostly, I still have to moderate a webinar tomorrow) and am doing a bunch of purging/organization projects, a few medical appointments and a few fun things.
I started coughing last night, my throat is feeling swollen, and I think I might have a low-grade fever. I'm going to have to cancel my acupuncture and dentist appointments today. Dammit, I rarely take time off and I'm so irritated to be sick during what was supposed to be a nice, long stretch of relaxation, exercise and getting shit done.

Reading this thread has helped me clear up the reason my commute was so short today. I forgot about spring break for the school kids. My kids still go to school til Wednesday (half day) but then they have Monday and possibly Tuesday of next week, too. At least it wasn’t the rapture!
Every time someone mentions the rapture, I think of the one death on six feet under, where the woman wandered into traffic bc a bunch of sex dolls filled with helium escaped. She thought it was the rapture. I also get skeeved when people put their heads out of moon roofs bc of that show. (And also the office- his capo was -detated.)
It's spring break, my desk is in the living room. DS11 is watching the most obnoxious YouTube videos on the TV and sitting on his hoverboard which beeps every five seconds. I am SO short on patience.
SD21 moves to her first apartment in 1 week, at which point I will start working on moving my Hs office to her room in the basement and then I get an office upstairs WITH A DOOR. Should be all done well before summer break starts and I can't wait to have a room with a door so I don't have to listen to Cotton Eyed Joe 30x
Our spring break is next week, so normal, but busy week for us with a few extra things thrown in after school.
DH is doing some sort of system testing today, so he's WFH. This is when I'm thankful he's downstairs and I'm upstairs. Our WFH days rarely overlap, but this week he will be home today and Friday and so am I.

We're over a week into Ramadan when many places close entirely and others have decreased hours, and it still unnerves me seeing such little traffic and empty lots until I remember where everyone is.

wildrice, so glad you had fun! I had a zoom pre-departure meeting with my group for Costa Rica and it was fun to start meeting everyone. We have a short presentation due before we leave, a daily journal, then a reflection paper, that's it. I was relieved to see there's a couple of ladies close to my age, and one is also plus sized like I am.
FI's daughter told me yesterday she hasn't been feeling good and has been light headed. I checked that she's been eating, and drinking water. She said she's actually been drinking a lot more water, which sent a red flag up. Checked her blood sugar and it was over 300. Her blood pressure is also dangerously high. I checked with an NP who said it could wait until today, so her dad came home last night to take care of everything and make sure she's doing ok.

We're in the countdown to spring break where I am. Most schools in my area are closed next week for spring break. My kids' school district also is closed on Thursday and Friday of this week. We are leaving late afternoon on Thursday to start driving to Florida. I am so excited to be in the warmth and sunshine for a week.
I spent yesterday afternoon at the outlet mall. DS needed some new shorts for spring break, and I wanted to get a few new things. I started packing last night, and I'm about 90% done packing my clothes and the beach bag is packed and ready to go. I'm about half-way done with cleaning, but will plan to finish that Wednesday night and Thursday before we leave.

I'm currently listening to my coworker talk to her toddler daughter on the phone and it is making my entire day.
I still haven't gone out to get new jeans for work because I'm just dreading trying on jeans in the store, but I found a pair of black jeans in my closet, so they will become my new go-to work pants.

We’re doing some space shit with the troop tonight to prep for the upcoming eclipse and what I’m most looking forward to is trying the space Oreos I found.

Oooh, what's a space Oreo?! I grew up near to a NASA campus and went a few times for field trips, so I've had space ice cream several times but am lacking knowledge of other space desserts.
I found leftover raw bacon in the freezer. I have no idea how old it is. It was an alarming color when it defrosted. So I cooked it up and ate it bc I like to live on the edge. Stay tuned 😛

I mean, if you're going to live on the edge at least bacon is worth it.

Our Spring Break isn't for another couple of weeks, but DS is off Thursday and Friday for Easter. Having a short week is the only thing getting me through lol.

I won concert tickets on the radio this weekend. This is the second time in 2 months that I've won. I also have a long history of winning things on the radio from Taylor Swift tickets to Broadway shows, I've even won gift cards and cash. This seems to be my super power. I wonder if I can transfer this power to win the lottery?

Color me jealous. My Mom is like this. She pretty much wins every raffle or bingo or whatever contest she enters. She doesn't gamble/play lottery, but we're banking on that fact that one day she will win the Publishing Clearing House sweepstakes. LOL she still snail mails and entry every month. She has done it since I was a kid.

Nothing like space ice cream - it’s a regular Oreo except there is a space ship design on the cooking and pop rocks in the middle, and I think the frosting might be dyed a different color.
It's finally not freezing temps or snowing. I just ran outside to check the mailbox at the office and the sun is out and it's above 40 degrees. I think we're going to switch around some dinner plans and throw something on the grill.
We had a nice, relaxing weekend. I wasn't feeling the greatest (sinus headache and general stuffiness), so it was good to lay low. Lots of basketball and golf watching (H) and reading/napping (me)
Friday we planned to go out for a bite to eat, but H and I both ate a late lunch so we weren't super hungry. We got takeout from a Thai spot that I had been wanting to try that was across town and it closed last year. They reopened right around the corner. It did not disappoint. We got a chicken curry rice dish w/ extra chicken and it was $12.49. It was plenty of food for H and I to split, with leftovers. DS picked a fried noodle dish with beef that was similar to what you'd get at hibachi. The noodles were thinner and it was loaded with veggies. It was also $12.49. Our go-to Thai place has been missing the mark lately, so I'm glad to have a new option. I can't wait to try the pad see ew and pad Thai
Saturday we were supposed to go to our friends for dinner. There are 5 families and a total of 8 kids under 6 years old. I love them all, but as to be expected, getting all those kids together means lots of noise. With the sinus headache I couldn't shake, the thought of dealing with that did not sound fun, so we backed out. I felt bad, but I would have probably been miserable. H made dinner (and went shopping) He also brought home Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I had been searching everywhere for the Marshmallow Sky flavor that is new in the pints. I hadn't been able to find it and he found it at Wegmans. I was so excited. It's delicious.
Yesterday we went furniture shopping (we want a new couch/sectional for the living room) and that was a bust. We can't find anything we like to fit the space. Now we're talking about looking at new houses. LOL.

My trip was successful even if it was cold. I don’t think the hotel had heat on the first night and there were no blankets outside of a creepy coverlet.
Our class was in a very dark cold room in an old historic house because we had to share space with a group that was supposed to be working outside. Yesterday was very cold but it wasn’t raining so they moved outside and we moved to a sunnier spot in the house that was much easier to see in! Although it did add some authentic flair to the weaving, I am uninterested in living that 1800s lifestyle.
Lunch was blah (my blueberry muffin didn’t have blueberries in it except for staining the wrapper) but dinner was great. Some of the classes I’ve taken were in areas where sourcing both lunch and dinner has been challenging so it was nice to have choices for dinner that were actually appealing and tasty. And filling! Weaving is very physical work and it’s long days.
Spring break here. My BIL is staying with us, so I had to move my office downstairs. My MIL is supposed to take the kids out today. She came at 9, and the place they are going to doesn’t open until noon. They are also currently downstairs. My daughter is playing piano, my son guitar and my MIL talks nonstop. I may scream, lol.
It’ll be fine. They’ll go soon, but she wants to do grandma daycare one day each week over summer break. Hell no. Having her here is 1000% worse than the kids alone. I’m not feeling very charitable right now.
We watched the BlackBerry movie last night. It was great.
I let myself get talked into competing on two days this weekend. I had only planned to do Saturday (and did terribly), but Sunday morning, I was just chilling about to do laundry when an old friend texted me that they were taking walk ins. And I felt I needed to redeem myself from the dismal performance. Whomp whomp. I did worse, in all measures.
When I lost my direct elimination, 15-2, the guy let out this humongous scream. I just rolled my eye. I went back to my end, and said to my friend, rather loudly so I know a few people heard, “that scream seemed rather excessive for beating a 50 year old, basically beginner woman 15-*2*” Of course, as I went to bed, I thought of a better one… asking the ref “what was the score again? Oooo. I thought maybe it was closer than I remembered based in my opponents reaction.” Sorry, college boy, but it was a bit excessive.
In other news, I am not sore today! I will take that as my only win.
I have an acquaintance who is pregnant with her second. Her first is around 10.
She has uploaded to IG four separate, elaborate pregnancy photo shoots with multiple outfit changes and different settings. In several she's wearing a crown.
She's also included a link to a fund for people to contribute to help offset baby costs.
I'm happy she's so happy. But also I don't need to see 10 photos each from 4 photo shoots of your bare belly. I also can't help thinking how many diapers the cost of those photo shoots could pay for, thus obviating or reducing the need for a gofundme.
Which is ungenerous of me. But it's Monday and I have a stressful week ahead so whatever.
