I'm so obsessed with this story! I can't believe the history of this race- it's fascinating and quirky. This woman is incredible. *Only the 20th person in ~30+ years to finish it...some years nobody finishes *5 x ~20 mile loops (about 26 miles) with elevation in TN *unmarked trail with no food/aid support except at each loop completion *semi treasure hunt & you have to find hidden books along the way to prove you made the course *she finished with < 2 minutes to spare on the 60 hour time cap *the application process for the race and the entry requirements are zany en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkley_Marathons
I did not know anything about this race until this weekend and my social media was blowing up about it. I cannot decide if this woman is amazing or insane. I think a touch of both (like all the men that have also done Barkley. Not just her.)

And that was her 3rd time doing it! I don’t know if insane is the right word but it def takes someone with exceptional mental differentness lol.
Also, I’ve watched several documentaries about this and they only allow spectators at the start/finish and I guess at a tower. Is there someone tracking the runners at all for their health and safety? Of all the documentaries I’ve seen they all do seem to make it back to the start/finish but getting lost and/or injured seems like it could happen.
