Long shot, I think, but I figured I'd see of the Collective here could help ... My stepmom, Nina, has some cognitive decline but she's in *strong* denial of the impact. My stepsister, Susan, is trying to manage her finances (and has POA in place to do so), but Nina still wants some control and Susan wants to respect that. Personally, I think Susan should just force the issue but I totally understand how difficult it is take the last bit of independence away from someone, especially a parent you love.
There's lots of history with credit card scammers, to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars - they infected her computer multiple times, they had landline and cell phone numbers, they had direct access to her credit card and bank accounts. They are relentless and should burn in hell. And that's from someone who doesn't particularly believe in hell, but they belong there.
Anyway, both Susan and I read an article somewhere that referenced credit cards specifically for seniors, where you could limit *where* they were used. This would be perfect because Nina only needs to use a card in a few places. If we could flag these places as OK, and all others get rejected, this would be a HUGE help with the scammers. But the article just said that these kinds of cards exist, with no link to actual companies offering the service. And so far, we've had no luck actually finding anything.
