My kid’s beloved Pre-k teacher had to suddenly leave due to medical issues. We had a rotation of subs for a few weeks and now we have a long term sub for the rest of the year. We are planning some get well / goodbye things for the teacher that is out, but I was thinking it might be nice to do something to welcome the new teacher? Parents are very involved here and happy to contribute, but nobody has taken the reins. Any ideas?
Maybe just a bouquet of flowers and have each kid (if possible?) draw a little picture and write their name on it, or write it for them. The kids could do self portraits, that could be cute!

When I took over an elementary maternity leave, I really appreciated the nice "Welcome" card and small bag of treats one family gave to me. I think it had things like a couple small snacks, hand lotion, mints, some candy, maybe Starbucks card?. Nothing crazy, but it was just a nice gesture and I remember it years later. That's probably all I'd do right now.
Maybe to add to pizzaandtulips some things for her desk/work that are for her but not classroom items, like one of those little phone charger boosters or a block/charging wire, bandaids, Motrin packet, dollar bills for vending machines, gloves for recess duty, etc. Coffee gift cards! This is a very thoughtful gesture btw.

To combine these ideas, maybe cut out a bouquet of paper flowers and let each kid decorate one.

I work in preschool and what I would kill for in this situation would be a few sentences about each kid, especially if the new teacher is coming in with no prior knowledge of these kids. What’s one thing the kid likes (dinosaurs/bugs/going down the slide/whatever)? Who does the child live with/any family situations that I need to be aware of? Any recent or upcoming changes (death of a loved one, new sibling, recent move, etc)? You’d be surprised how little of this makes it to paperwork unless it’s really big. If someone would organize this and get it to me without me having to read paragraphs about Susie or spend weeks trying to get info on Johnnie that would be better than any present. But snacks are always good too
