I'm home, finally. Yesterday was a shit show for flying - had several delays and I ended up in the back row, window seat. Good thing it only took 2 hours to get home from Lisbon! I arrived back at 9pm last night, ate a light dinner and then went to bed and slept until 9.30am this morning. I needed it as I didn't sleep well this past week.
I've done some gardening work (repotting seedlings) and some work work. I need to do laundry so will start that soon. Maybe. I'm going to binge watch a few things and then make some dal and rice for dinner.
Chilly here but at least sunny today before the rain tomorrow. A favorite band of ours is doing this thing where they are playing an acoustic set at a local park today and encouraging people to come out with picnics, etc., so we are going to do that for awhile. I'm hoping if we sit in the sun with a sweatshirt and a blanket if needed that we aren't freezing.
It is chilly and windy! We had planned to go to a museum event today but it’s like an hour away and mostly outside and I don’t think I’m up to being blown away. Maybe if it was a bit closer I’d be more willing to risk it. But now we have no plans and I don’t get to go the good bakery there. Major problems lol
I did a Don’t Tell Comedy show last night and it was such a blast! Don’t Tell was active in our city pre-pandemic but this was the first one since and I didn’t think we’d have any audience at all.
I was completely wrong - the place (a really funky art studio filled with hundreds of mostly nude portraits) was almost sold out and they were very ready to laugh. Super hot crowd.
Plus I talked to the studio owner and I’ll probably model for a Sunday class series. They’re not all nude, so my comfort level will decide. It was very cool that the portraits on display reflected all ages and sizes.
We got at least two inches of snow overnight, and even though this is not uncommon for early April here I'm calling bullshit. We don't ski, my hyacinths are in full bloom, and IT IS SPRING. STOP WITH THE SNOW ALREADY!
Later today, once I stop ranting at the weather, Kid 1 has an archery lesson and then H wants to go to a restaurant supply store. He's taken on a new leadership role at work and has decided that what his office needs is a dirty soda bar. I figure it can't hurt even though the real reason morale is low is that their front desk staff are a bunch of sniping harpies who've run off every office manager they've hired for the last four years.
I slept til 9:30. I usually go to the gym at 11, and here is it 10:40 and I’m still in PJs. Totally a want to want to go thing. Should… yep, I’m getting up. Now.
We had a relaxing Friday night. Brought a pizza home and watched a movie with DS.
Today we're going to hit our local brewery in the afternoon for their 4 year anniversary. Since we're mug club members, we'll get a few free samples of 2 new beers so I'm looking forward to trying those. There's a taco truck so we'll just grab lunch there.
We're going up to a friends later for drinks and a fire. It's her 45th birthday tomorrow and her boyfriend invited us over to their house for just a low key hangout after dinner w/ cake. She is a person who hates celebrating her birthday and/or talking about it so we're all kind of hoping she's not mad about this gathering, lol. I personally don't get it, I love celebrating myself haha.
DH was home for all of 13 hours before heading back to Baltimore this morning, but we got a nice evening as a family for our anniversary. He surprised me with a pretty bracelet from his last trip too, we don't usually do anniversary gifts.
Got DD off to school for a theater crew work day and a grocery order put in, but otherwise procrastinating on my to do list for the day. It's just so much nicer drinking coffee on the couch while I read and snuggle with the dog.

I was so nervous about attending my first church potluck earlier in the week, but I had a fantastic time! I bought a dozen mini cupcakes from Publix and when I stayed to help clean up, only 3 were left!
I knew everyone would be nice, but I was more nervous about starting conversations that would (fingers crossed) eventually lead to sitting with new people and eventually making new friends.
My strategy was to start talking to people while helping set up and then again when everyone was lining up. I stayed off to the side so I could talk to as many people before getting in line myself AND IT WORKED!!
One of the ladies I chatted with invited me to sit at her table which saved me the nervousness of standing around with my plate trying to find a table high school style.
I volunteered to help this afternoon to set up tomorrow’s Easter Egg Hunt (the reasoning behind doing it a week late is because Holy Week and the Easter Bunny together might be confusing to the younger children) and I’m proud of myself for trying to be more social.
I wish making friends in your late 30s was as simple as saying “Your blouse / pocketbook / shoes are so cute! Would you like to catch a matinee or have some coffee” without sounding like you’re angling for a date.
Do noise cancelling headphones work when you aren't listening to music? I've realised that one of the reasons my partner is pissing me off is that he is always making noise. Listening to clips on instagram or wherever. making phone calls. And i like and need quiet. I dont want to have music on, i just want to hear silence sometimes!!
I’m at a community health event today. First come first served dental care. It’s only been a few hours, but most people are now checked in (80 so far), and we’re expecting twice that many. There’s a little lull for check in, but I'm totally fine with that! It’s disappointing that I’m not doing more, but I’m sure they’ll have me do more later.
I had graduation last night, so I got home late from that. It was a mild disaster. The person that usually does the major speaking has left, the new person was dull as hell, I read graduate program intros and student names. HOWEVER. There was a major miscommunication and I didn’t know that one of the programs had a graduate walking. So I didn’t call her program up, therefore I didn’t announce her to walk on stage to get her diploma. She did say something eventually, and we got her up, but it was awful. AWFUL. Our campus director played it off well, he is going to do a $100 gift card for her. But I feel like trash about it.
Also, I didn’t get home until nearly 8 and hadn’t had dinner yet, then I had to be here at today’s event by 7. I’m exhausted and feeling like crap on so many levels today.

Some do work well playing a sort of white noise. Ultimately, I think tape is going to be your best bet. Probably right over his mouth. LOL
I ended a call with DH last night because he was eating while on the phone and I could not deal with that at all. Lol. No information was worth knowing with all that noise!

Electronic noises from other people's devices are my #1 pet peeve, so this would also make me homicidal if my kids or spouse were doing it all the time. Would he be amenable to wearing Airpods or something similar so you don't have to hear whatever he's listening to?

Get loop earplugs. I use them to drown out my kids sometimes. 🤣
The dog we are dog sitting latched onto our puppy’s head last night. I think the puppy was driving her nuts trying to play so it was understandable, but I can’t trust them together now so she’s back at her apartment. That means 6am wake ups to take her on a walk and feed her and a lot of extra logistics in our weekend to go back and forth to get her out and on walks throughout the day. Her family comes back Monday evening and I am thrilled. We decided to get the puppy after agreeing to sit this dog, so I followed through, but I will never do this again.
Had DS2’s soccer game today. They got demolished. lol Poor kids. And it was cold and windy, so just all around not great.
I’m about to take him to MIL’s to stay the night because DS1’s birthday party is this afternoon. Eight boys at a jump place and then back at our place for pizza, ice cream, and a movie.

My AirPod pros do. I put them in when H gets home from work and turns on the TV. With nothing playing. They don’t do white noise or anything just amazing silence.

I am exhausted. I have been sleeping in DS’s top bunk since his tonsil/sinus surgery on Tuesday and it has not been restful. I worked out this morning and then we took a walk to grab lunch and get DS out of the house. We are all just resting now, and I’m heading to get my hair cut and colored shortly. I may fall asleep at the salon. Low key night tonight. H picked up scallops from a new fish store in town so we will have that and probably watch a movie before early bed.

My H didn’t feel like grocery shopping today, so we’re going out for a late lunch in a bit. I’m very happy there’s a margarita and chips and salsa in my future, lol.
My only other goal for today is to pack for my work trip. I leave tomorrow afternoon, so not much more time to procrastinate on it.

Yes, with AirPods you just click for the noise cancelling regardless of whether music is playing. If you don’t already have headphones you could just use ear plugs. I have wax kind that I use sometimes because I’m a light sleeper and when they mold to your ear they block all sound out.
The sun came out for an hour this morning and I was all productive cleaning out our sunroom and organizing...now it's cloudy and cold and I'm on the couch contemplating a nap.
We are switching dog food because I’m over paying for prescription foods that doesn’t work and in confusion of our auto ship, my kid ended up opening the box containing her squishamllaow birthday shoes. She didn’t see anything other than the squish picture, but ugh.

And I forgot to mention that my PICC line insertion and first infusion went swimmingly! The insertion was about two hours + 45 minutes for the infusion + they keep you an extra 15 minutes to make sure you don’t have any reactions, etc…
It was a long morning but I’m glad at least they were able to schedule me as quickly as they did. Today’s infusion was much smoother, and was just 90 minutes from arriving to departing. This is my 3rd PICC line ever, but it’s a few years since my last one so I was grateful to get a “new” info packet.
And luckily the weather is nice enough to wear short sleeves since people are MUCH more careful and give me a wider berth when they can see it (covered by a hospital issue cover, of course) vs wearing long sleeves.
I took C to see a play this morning with a friend and her mom. We ran into another friend and her mom there so we all went to lunch together. It’s nice to see how much C has blossomed over the last year. And I love the little tribe we are building. I know today never would have happened if I was still married.
I need a root canal and I’ve never had one before. I have a dental phobia although my current dentist is wonderful. I have a hard time with just fillings. He’s sending me to a specialist who uses nitrous. How bad are root canals? I hate the noise of the equipment most
Y'all... I fetched groceries this morning and came home to sparkling clean floors. I still need to dust, but the dishes are done, all floors vacuumed/swept/mopped. And dusting is a whole lot easier than pushing a vacuum/mop, so I'm happy.
H has assumed all floor chores for the last six months. And I'm starting to feel little sparks of what I felt when we first met.
Is it sad that clean floors give me butterflies? 🤔

beerlover I don’t get that non celebratory attitude either! My birthday is 7-28, but I start celebrating on 7-4 by pretending that the fireworks are also there for me!
I basically make the entire month about me, because every year above ground is a good year! 🥳

I had one about two years ago, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. No pain during or after, but there was a lot of noise and equipment, so nitrous is probably a good call!
