DD2’s awesome soccer coach is also a beloved 4th grade teacher in our district. Dd2 never had him as a teacher, as she has never attended school in the district, but she loves him as a coach.
He and 99 other teachers in our district were laid off on Friday. Dd2’s BFF’s mom was also laid off. Coach has been teaching in the district for 8 years, BFF mom for 2. There are 5200 kids in the district pre-k through 12th. So this hurts a lot.
I feel terrible. They’re sad, worried, and upset. I was hoping to do something for the coach, maybe for BFF mom as well. I can probably spend $50 on each. Any ideas? I was thinking a gift card to a local restaurant- BFF’s mom said her head is spinning and there are so many meetings and demonstrations that she has to attend, so I thought that might help. But is there a better option?
For the Girl Scout leader that stepped down after 5 years, I collected money (voluntary) and got her a Target gift card, local restaurant gift card and someone made something for her. This seems a bit more scaled down than that, so I would do Target and/ or restuarant gift card.
It was timely because she mentioned one of her items was broken at the last meeting, so I figured she could use Target to replace it. Not sure if it originally came from Target, but you get the idea. It was kitchenware type item.
