I was out of town most of last week on a business trip. My asshole brother in law is visiting for the big event, so I got to miss lots of days with him. Yay! Last night he went to a baseball game, so we didn’t have to have dinner with them. Yay again! Tonight we will have dinner with them, and tomorrow they go home. Huge yay! Then we have one night to get dinner with my niece, the asshole’s daughter, who leaves on Wednesday.
Work looks calm this week, so far. Fingers crossed!
Good weekend, we hung out with friends and got some housework done.
I've got my solar glasses ready for the eclipse today. I have to go to the funeral home after work. I didn't know her well, but from what I did know of her, she was amazing. Cancer and she was only 50 with kids still in middle school.
Then we have to go to the in-laws since DHs sister is in. We have no idea why and she was here 3 days before we even heard anything from her. So that should top off the day.
I have changed my eating to reduce carbs (white bread, potatoes, white rice, not carbs from fruits and greens vegetables) so I hate not knowing what we are eating so that I can plan my day. And that I will smell like I smoked 3 packs by the time I leave.

Happy Monday, all. Saturday was great — DD1 and I had a wonderful time kayaking. H and DD2 had fun hanging out and going to a birthday party. Then we had family time playing games in the evening. Very pleasant.
Sunday we were all a bit of a mess. I didn’t drink enough water Saturday while out and about and woke up with a migraine. H, who hops out of bed at 6am most days, crashed until after 10. DD2 got so upset at the second birthday party of the weekend that H apologized to the host and brought her home early. DD1 laid in bed until 1pm. (She said she was fine, just “bed rotting”. I am taking this as a sign of near teenagehood ). I did manage to get to the grocery store and stock up groceries. I told DD1 that she’s in charge of supper while I am gone (H always feeds them well when I’m not home to cook, of course, but his workday ends later than mine and there’s no reason she cannot help for a few days. She can make tacos and put frozen manicotti in the oven as well as the next person). We are also having an ant problem so I’ve tasked DD2 with making sure no food gets left out and that the counters are wiped. Godspeed, kiddos, see y’all later.
Today is pretty quiet at work then I fly out tonight and it’s go-go-go until I get home Friday night. I am over people already and I have not even left, lol. I am looking forward to star fishing in the bed.
We survived the weekend. DD was at the event center 35hrs this weekend starting at 5pm Friday and we left after cleaning up at 9:30 last night. She is having a much-needed mental health day today from school. She said she would only go to school if she could give herself in school suspension and be able to work alone in a room and no one talk to her all day. It was a successful state meet and I'm thankful that DD didn't have to compete. Next year if we host again, I will need to put my mom foot down and not let DD be there for as many hours.
My dog had a rough weekend. DH and doggy were home all weekend but she refused to eat for him and would wait until I got home late to eat. She had throw up at 4am Sunday and I guess diarrhea during the day. So far this morning she is just my normal velcro dog.
I also have my eclipse glasses ready, and I'll be driving through the peak of it getting DD2 and a few of her teammates to soccer. Then rushing home because I had to move the kids' therapy appointments to later today since they both have practices that conflict with tomorrow's standing appointment.
We had a good weekend. DD1 had her first school softball game on Friday afternoon. It was freezing, but fun! Saturday DD2's town soccer game got canceled, so both kids had friends over. Then DH and I went out to eat Saturday night. DD1 slept over at a friend's house and didn't come home until dinner time on Sunday, while DD2 had a soccer game and then had a friend over.
This week is weird and busy. We had to shift some things around to accommodate sports practices. This weekend DD2 had games scheduled for Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Then Saturday afternoon got canceled, so I figured we'd go to the beach house and get a few things done, and come back for Sunday. Then I got an email this morning stating that the opposing team is trying to reschedule Sunday's club game. Great, I thought, we don't have to rush home because the kids have Monday off! Perfect. Ohhh, now the team that canceled last Saturday's game wants to play this Saturday at 9am, 35 mins away, arrival 30 mins early... and maybe Sunday won't be canceled? It's such a mess! But it will be fine - I'd just like to know what the plan is!

It was a good long weekend. I took last Thursday and Friday off because it was spring break and we were leaving to go to our poker run race. Thursday, DS wanted to go to an arcade, so we did that and had lunch together. We went home and got stuff ready to leave Friday morning. Friday, we met my mom so she could go with us and babysit DS while we were at the motorcycle event. We made good time to the motel, waited a bit for Beau's brother and son to join us, and then we drove to the event to check in and pick up our t-shirts. It had been raining all day there and it was a mud pit. Our 4-wheel drive vehicles were sliding around just in the parking area. We were hoping for some rain so it wouldn't dusty during our ride, but getting there made us realize it was going to be a muddy mess of a ride the next day. We ended the night with dinner with everyone, including Beau's 3 cousins.
It was still dark Saturday morning when we left the motel to head to the poker run. Luckily it had stopped raining but some of the parking area was still a mud pit. I was super happy with how my riding went. I was able to keep up with the group and made it up some tough spots. I only dropped my bike once on a rock hill that I think I could have made it up if the guy in front of me hadn't crashed and blocked my way. Beau's back was bothering him and I didn't feel like doing another lap, so we stopped at 1 and Beau's son and 2 cousins did a second. I'm glad we didn't go the 2nd lap because his son said it was tore up by that time and super crowded. We ended up driving home after the event so we could have Sunday to rest.
We lounged around Sunday until it was time to take DS back to his dad's. It was clear in the parenting plan that spring break was split and this year was my year to have the shorter amount of time. But we got to his dad's house and he wasn't there and didn't pick up his phone. He called me back 15 minutes later and said he was at work and tried to throw me and DS under the bus for misunderstanding the PP. I threw it back at him as I'd already sent him the screenshots. I ended up dropping DS off at his work. I felt so bad for DS because he was in tears over the mixup.
This week is going to be busy. I have to figure out if Beau is going to NYC with me next month for work and plan our travel. I have my in office day on Wednesday plus DS's school conference. I have lots of things to catch up on and I hope to still go to the gym. Beau is still having back pain but refuses to go to the doctor, so I'm still pushing him to go since it doesn't seem like it's getting any better.
We are back from Europe and had a great time. The weather was a little cool and rainy in parts of the day, but the rain usually blew over quickly. We came home with little colds (but not Covid). The phone is ringing off the hook at work for people looking for eclipse glasses, but it is starting to slow down as we get closer to the eclipse time. The kids were fighting a lot during the trip. In hindsight, I think it would be helpful if DD was a bit older for it. DS seemed to do better at 13 than she did at 11 years old.
Everything went really really well for the trip. We had a LOT of transitions meaning flying internationally, customs, hotels, trains, etc. and they were all on time and went smoothly. We saw a lot of what we wanted to see, but got a bit tired at the end and of course the first day due to no sleeping on the plane. I think we were both ready to come home and could have seen a bit more. The food and sightseeing was amazing!
Honestly, Europe seemed like another planet to me. One poster said it's not Mars, but it seemed that way to me, and I think it is because of the isolation due to the pandemic. It just seemed surreal, and like it didn't even exist. I am glad we went because DS might study abroad in high school and if not high school then definitely in college. I think it helped him and DH understand what places he may want to study and languages.
We went to Normandy, and the long arm of history is very present there of course due to D-day. It is literally baked into their landscape with the holes in the hillside from the bombs and German bunkers, and their economy since tourism of the sites is their main income. Then onto Amsterdam where we saw the Anne Frank house (unfortunately inside tickets were sold out), but our tour guide talked a bit about it, and about the shipping industry slavery. Then onto Cologne where we saw a modern city due to all the bombing of industry on the Rhine, and I learned that Germany wasn't really that involved in the slave trade because it is landlocked, so that was mostly the coastal countries including Sweden which I didn't realize Sweden was involved. So we learned a lot of history, some that I knew already, but different when you are actually there. The guide in Amsterdam said the Germans just bombed all of Rotterdam, so then they had to surrendor because they literally has 2 airplanes. So just understanding that some of the countries just didn't really have a military to speak of. Everything is also so close within 4 hour train ride of each other. I talk like I had never been to Europe before, but I was in Spain which has a much different WWII history than France, Germany and the Netherlands.
I am COVID negative now - yay! It's day 6. I do still have cold symptoms/sound nasally, but I feel fine. So hopefully this can be a normal (though very busy, given all the things I had to reschedule from last week) week.
Over the weekend DD had 3 softball games for her 2 different teams, and both little boys had fun at their friends' birthday parties.
Yesterday I spent a couple hours starting a post-tummy tuck/muscle repair closet cleanout. I'm basically the same size (because hips) but my clothes are now soooo much more comfortable and more flattering. I do need to get some new pants since the ones I have now have too much extra fabric in the stomach area that I needed before to make space for the extra skin I had there, but most of my tops and dresses still fit well/better. I need to do a couple more rounds of trying stuff on and deciding what to pass on, but I'm excited to have a sparser closet limited to clothes I will hopefully actually wear. Also I realized I have a lot of nice clothes to mainly wear the equivalent of sweats much of the time. I'm going to try to wear real clothes more often
Now that my kids' 2-week spring break is over, sports are back in full swing. We have a baseball or softball or flag football game every night this week, and 3 on Saturday. But the weather is great and it will be good to be outside with friends.
