I need an idea for enclosing my rhubarb plant. I have a new lab puppy who seems to think that everything is fair game. I worry about him chomping on the leaves when I’m not looking. I thought of a chicken wire fence, but am not sure if the holes are small enough to keep his teeth off. Picture of my “innocent” boy.
At our last house we grew our rhubarb in the side yard, outside the fenced backyard for this reason.
At our current house it is in the backyard, but it's up against the house in a large bed of perennials, so it's not a place I'd be letting him hang out anyway.
I think chicken wire would work as long as you do a large enough perimeter around the plant. it can be tough to estimate how big it's going to get as the season progresses though, so you might need to keep an eye on it and be willing to enlarge as June and July come.

Susie, Our yard only has a one section where we get full sun, so that is where I have my garden and a spot for the rhubarb. Our older guy could care less about any plants in the yard. This one, however, has to try everything. I have the green stakes already, but need a smaller mesh.
Thanks, deadwing, I like that size. I will have to see if it comes in a smaller roll somewhere.
