Yay for the weekend! Tonight I'm finally getting together with some high school friends. Hopefully. They could still bail. 3 of us have college age kids, but one has 5 kids, with two still very much involved in all sports, so she is always the one having trouble getting away, understandably.
Tomorrow, we are preparing burgoo and barbecue for a fundraiser. I actually enjoy doing it. The whole community comes together, but my favorite part is a bunch of women young and old working together, catching up on news.
Sunday, we all get up early and go to our old picnic grounds, we've been having picnics on this land for almost 150 hrs, to package and sell the food. All proceeds go to the kids and my old school.
The week was rough. I had a very bad experience with my lacrosse team on Wednesday that has really soured my mood (long story short: the girls on my school team are about half Black and this is highly unusual for lacrosse, which is a white ass sport around here. We played at a prep school where the other team made some racist comments to and about my team and it was so shitty).
Hoping for a better weekend. Tonight is Trivia Night at school -- I don't normally go to school parent events because it's annoying to be a teacher there but this one is fun. DD2 has two soccer games this weekend -- she's playing on a new team and they are so much better than her old team so that's fun. We are going to a pro game tomorrow night.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
It was a loooong week and I'm happy it's Friday! We have a busy weekend but the weather looks great!
DD1 has a softball game with school that's about an hour away this afternoon. I'm not going - I've kind of tried to avoid the away games like that if there's stuff happening here. The traffic will be awful, so I'm going to skip it. I'll take DD2 shopping for a birthday gift for one of her BFF's party this weekend. DD2 also has a rec soccer game this evening locally. DH and I will go but take 2 cars so that we can run and pick up DD1 when she gets back.
Tomorrow DD1 has softball in town with her rec, which conflicts with DD2's rec soccer game 30 mins away. So I think I'm going to softball and DH is going to soccer. Then DH and I are having a date night at our favorite Italian bistro.
Sunday DD2 has a club soccer game, then we're going straight to her friend's bday party at a rollerskating rink. Both DDs are invited, so it should be fun. I'm making them wear wrist guards since they both seem to have a penchant for broken wrists. Neither kid is arguing with me LOL.
At some point I'm hoping to do some meal prep for the week. Since everyone has every activity during dinner every single night, I need to come up with some good healthy reheatable meals.
8th Birthday for DS tomorrow. We're having two of my two sisters and a family we are friends with over for a casual party. DS will be disappointed my parents aren't there but my mom's knee surgery got pushed 9 days so traveling 3.5 hours at this point in her recovery isn't an option. We'll have them over in May when my mom is feeling up to it.
Anyways, H is making a cake today and we need to wrap all his presents tonight. We buy & wrap for other family too because DS is hard to buy for with his niche interests.
This is shaping up to be a beautiful weekend, so I'm looking forward to having the windows all open and doing some spring cleaning projects around the house. DH and I are going to put out all our outdoor furniture and get the deck set up. I love having the outdoor couch available for reading outside. I just need to find some kind of good solution for shade. We're thinking of installing a retractable awning over part of the deck. It gets a lot of direct sun and can be hot in peak summer months, but with some shade it's really nice out there. Also, I'm the palest person there is, so I can't sit out in direct sun without getting a major sunburn.
I'll get my final paper done for school and submit that to get it out of the way. It's not due for another week, but we don't have the kids this weekend so I want to make sure I finish it before they come back and I get distracted.
twinmomma, The awnings are great if it works with the angle of the sun! My parents have one for their huge deck and they love it.
We don't have anywhere to install one on our patio, so we went with a gigantic umbrella that can be moved with a crank to change the angle. It's worked really well near the pool. It gets really breezy up there and we haven't had an issue with it at all. The base takes up space, but you could probably put part of the base under your couch.

erbear, I’m sorry that happened to your players. I hope they’re doing okay.
I’ve had a pretty quiet and productive week. I have a couple of things to finish today and I’m hoping it will end on a high note.
I did screw up my back. Not at the gym, not doing yard work, not lifting my dog on/off the grooming table. No, I seem to have screwed it up laying down next to my child to give her a hug. As my grandma used to say, getting old is the pits but it beats the alternative. This is great timing since I’m supposed to help my brother move Sunday.
Anyway, pretty quiet weekend. Tomorrow the girls and I are taking a macrame class at the local library and DD2 has piano. Sunday we’re all helping my brother move. Fun times.

It's been raining the last few days and will continue through the weekend so anything we do will be indoors. Tomorrow we're going to my parents' house for dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday. We don't have plans for Sunday yet but I'm sure we'll figure something out to get us out of the house.
I started a new workout program and I'm sore. I mean.. I was sore by 7:30 from a workout I started at 6. Usually it takes a few hours before soreness kicks in. I've been considering cancelling it every day since I have a 7 day trial period, but I paid for a year. I wish I had a longer trial period. I was sold on it being 20 minute workouts, but they start at 20 minutes, and after a few weeks they grow to 30+ or doing two different programs a day so 40+. And the chick is annoying. But.. I'm sore? So that's a good thing?
I really like the Core Play and Beyond Flexibility by Karin Dimitrovova - the programs and the instructor, and also Piyo, but after doing them for years, it's repetitive and I keep trying to find something new and failing.
This weekend we have soccer, birthday parties, and then Sunday we're driving DH's to his parents house so that he can drive them and their car to their new house. I want to complain about spending 4 hours in the car, but DH gets to spend 7-8 hours in a car... with his parents. Soooo, I guess I'll keep my mouth shut.
We have 2 kids soccer games, professional game and a band concert this weekend.
I see people doing stuff with friends, and I am like how do they have time with all the sports? I basically have 2 days free a month. I guess I'll text you in July?
So now for my dinner I've been trying to plan for HS friends, on texts asking if husbands are going because hers wants to go, another responds mine wants to come. I'm like Dh can if everyone else is coming. Then the other one chimes in, well my dh is working, so I guess I'm out.
Good grief, I just wanted to catch up with friends. I don't know why husbands are involved, I don't know why it's a big deal to come without. When Dh had his other job, I went everywhere without him or I'd have been a hermit. I've fulfilled my commitment I made trying to get us together, so I won't take the lead again.
rere , honestly this is why I now have the character flaw of not trying very hard anymore. I try very to only get together with people who are good communicators and easy to make plans with. These results in only about 10% of the population, I swear lol. It's difficult when my other friends that I would like to see are very poor communicators (cancel multiple times with dramatic stories, get upset easily/ guilt trip, or the flip side don't really want to do the plans so they say they will ask their husband, and you never hear from them again). The same one if you make plans, tries to change them to what she and kids want (controlling) as opposed to going along with the idea that you invited them to. I get making plans is a compromise, but you're telling me your son cares which park he goes to that much? He has to go the local nearby park and can't run around the 5 minute drive soccer park when they are both patches of grass?
I want to reach out to my college friend but she was the one that got offended that we had soccer last year. So I guess I have to wait until after tournaments are over with so she doesn't get upset. Sigh. She has a toddler and doesn't understand kid sports.
ETA- Yes they should be thankful you are organizing and shut up about their opinions and show up. If they were organizing and want their husbands there then they can plan their own event.

We have a sun sail or sail shade or whatever you want to call it on our patio. It’s great because we put it up in the summer but then take it down over the winter. Also super affordable and easy to replace if it gets worn out. It has a nice modern vacationy feel to me and a lot of flexibility in how you attach it and sizing.

We have a soccer tournament this weekend so 4 games and a team dinner. Thankfully it’s only about 30 mins from home. Otherwise it’s been a rough week at work with work deadlines but also to having to make hard decisions and stuff.
We have a multicultural event at the elementary school this evening so that should be fun. Ds2 is representing his heritage in the school parade so he’s dressed up as Messi today and loving it.
I had my facial today and it was nice. My sister recommended her and she is fresh out of school and just renting a booth trying to go on her own. No sales pitching.
DD finally figured out yesterday that her friends at school have been using her and now is questioning her friendships. Her BFF borrowed her notes yesterday to copy down a bunch of work she hadn't done, so she had info for the big test, and the BFF lost her notes. Another teacher helped DD find them, and they were in the recycling.
Rainy weekend here. Lots of events in town this weekend so sticking close to home. I am going to the master garderners plant sale tomorrow morning.
Yesterday was a ridiculously long workday but today has been a lovely WFH Friday with limited work and lots of catching up on life stuff. Tonight and tomorrow, the kids have five sports games across 4 sports, but Sunday is wide open. Which is good since I have crazy work travel to a conference in LA and a client meeting in New Mexico next Monday-Wednesday.

Ugghhh! The middle school friendship issues are so tough. They're seemingly necessary rights of passage, but so rough to go through and, as a parent, watch.
DD1 severed ties with two best friends about four weeks ago. One had her kindle and says she "lost" it.
erbear, I hope you reported it! DD’s private school has a higher percentage of black kids by far than any other, and I know this has come up. It’s just really shitty that things like that still happen. DD’s current BFF is black (I say “current” because we too are having middle school girl friendship shifts), and she is thinking of playing field hockey with DD next year. Not a lot of people of color in field hockey.
We drove 4 hrs yesterday for DD to play field hockey today. DS’s birthday is Tuesday so it’s a combo birthday and field hockey trip. My kids are in the hotel pool before DD has to leave for the fields. DS is going to swim most of the day with a short trip to watch his sister this afternoon. MIL is with us, so I put her to work with DS this morning. When he was finished with breakfast, I sent her up to the room with him. (She was the only adult finished eating.) And then sent her to the pool with him. Then I took DD a few minutes later.

I said something to the coach before we left and texted my AD immediately. He came to practice to tell the girls how he was handling it. Not a chance was I letting those kiddos think that I was going to let this pass.
The good news is that FH is slightly less white than lacrosse, at least around here. I hope it’s a good experience for your DD’s friend — I guess that’s how things change but damn if you always have to be the only.

I have strep. It knocked me out all day yesterday and last night. I made to minute clinic today for a diagnosis and prescription.
So instead of going on a date night with my H, I’m laying in bed while the sitter takes care of the 7 year olds and DD1 is hanging out with a friend in our basement.
DH is taking advantage of having the night off. He’s been 💯 parenting with me being sick.
Hope you feel better soon callmekd! Smart to still have the sitter come. I’ve had strep twice this past year, and luckily felt way better 24 hours after antibiotics - I hope that’s the case for you too!
