Bears react to our rejection/defense. Yelling, making ourselves bigger, etc.
Men do not.
I saw one video that showed a grizzly bear running at a group of photo journalists and the journalists all started shouting and acting big and the bear retreated.
It was stitched with a woman saying something like "even bears hear 'no, go away' and follow those directions, so that is why women choose bears."

In come out of your house and find tracks around your house. Would you rather it be a bear or human? That one sent a chill up my neck.
I've loved this question and enjoyed the commentary around it.
I'd be more freaked out by Bear tracks.
But we on a corner and people think it's okay to walk their dogs all over our lawn and occasionally one even gets in the back yard. I'd just think it was yet another person who thinks owning a dog is a license to trespass.

Holy hell, I never thought about this angle, and I'm the one banging on about it's not the man it's the difference!
FFS I for sure would rather have bear tracks.
I do respect the argument that we're unlikely to see a bear. We see men all day every day (if we're urban) with no problem. But, in isolation, my spidey senses are higher with a random guy than with a bear in her natural environment.
There was a reddit thread about what was the worst crime that occurred in your town? and the answers were all women being killed by men. One guy commented " Now I understand why women choose the bear."
I am really puzzled by some of these responses. It just goes to show how different lived experiences can shape our perception.
I except a bear to act like a bear. Generally, they would ignore me unless I infringed upon them in some way. I feel confident that I would alter my course to avoid them and probably be fine. Men on the other hand...

If the question was would you rather come across a strange man or bear when alone in your house I would choose bear for that question, where I choose man for the original question.

For sure. I could run outside and call for help and know that the bear probably can’t open the door to come after me.

A friend in CT just posted a pic of the bear that wandered into her garage to take an old bag of sunflower seeds, plopped in her front yard, and happily munched away. This was not in any way related to the manbear question.
Yep, I'll take sunflower seed snacking bear chilling in the front yard any day.
