Speaking of these crazy employees, I have 9 students in the graduate class I'm teaching this semester. The semester is 8 weeks long. What are the chances that three of them have had a "close family member" die during the first half of the course, which meant that they had to delay getting things done?
One of them I've had before and was an excellent student/in a leadership role at work, so I tend to believe her. The other two... I'm not sure. One I've had before and consistently turned in things late and/or much shorter than assigned, so I tend to think he was lying.
lust2hart - In my state the employer has to mandate leave after 3 days of leave. It isn't an opt in or out thing in my state.
But since she refused FMLA, I guess she refused job protection so may make her less likely to go after the company about being fired. There are also tax implications in her lies.

It's been a busy 7 days. I had a blast with friends at the wine fest we went to last weekend and then this week I've chaperoned a field trip to see Little Shop of Horrors (lots of sexual innuendo from the dentist and the kids caught it all), played tennis, tons of time hauling kids all over (though if DS1 is involved he does the driving since he has his permit now, lots of not quite right sayings such as when he backed out of a parking spot for the first time he turned so he was driving the way opposite he wanted to go "When life gives you lemons, you eat 'em, let's go this way")and lots of house stuff since we have a realtor coming Monday. Driving an hour each way tonight to watch DS1 run one event, then staying up till midnight when the bus arrives and I'll go pick him up.

FI just got a call from his Capitan. He leaves at 3 am in the morning. We were expecting a little more than 12 hours notice, but that's the way it goes sometimes. There's a small chance he'll be home in 3-4 weeks, but more than likely I won't see him again until the middle of August.

followyourarrow is your FI having CTJ talks with his DD before he leaves? That sounds like a tough situation to leave you with for months, especially if she gets fired.
googled (I think that's who) how did your run for HOA board go? We had a big HOA meeting yesterday because they're trying to change the rules. My H said I was yelling, but I don't think I was I was just talking firmly and overtop of the (male) president because he kept trying to talk over me. It was over zoom too. But omg HOAs are such a freaking scam and I don't understand what the board does as also being homeowners. Like do they not pay HOA fees or something so aren't bothered? They certainly don't get the fines that the rest of us do I'm sure...

My 7 yo loves to play wordle with me. His opening word always drives me nuts because it’s a terrible starting word. But today it left only one word remaining so we solved the Wordle in two. And yes, this was just luck but it makes us happy, lol. In other NYTimes games news, today’s mini crossword felt like it should have been the April Fool’s puzzle.

penguingrrl her current district covers 8 towns in whole or in part so you can imagine how THIN its stretched. The new district covers exactly ONE town.

That could be a fantastic change for her! Best of luck, hopefully she comes around to all of these changes!
I got my x-ray results back in the patient portal already, and they didn't find my rogue IUD. I suspect my doctor is going to tell me it probably came out and I didn't realize it at the time, but also HOW COULD THAT HAVE HAPPENED? That thing hurt like a bitch going in, and even on a heavy day of my period I find it hard to believe I wouldn't have noticed a hunk of pointy metal exiting my body.
In much better news I treated myself to lunch at my favorite cafe, picked up some of their delicious pastries for tonight's dessert, and I'm about to get my hair cut for the first time since Christmas.
I have friends who are preparing to flood for the 3rd time in 6.5 years. I am weary. It’s not even my own house but it’s my community and it’s devastating.
Amazon delivered the Purdue t-shirts I ordered for H’s upcoming birthday. He loves wearing Purdue shirts and was so proud of the men’s team that got to the NCAA Final Four - first time since 1980-something. So, I took the opportunity to get a bunch with the Final Four and Championship logos.
Not that he didn’t buy one for himself 1 week before his birthday. Dude!
I feel very accomplished that I pulled this off in time for gift giving.
On my flight home today I was in the middle seat in an exit row between the two largest men I have ever seen in real life. Like had to be each at least 6'5" and JACKED. One had on shorts and each thigh was the size of my not small torso. They resembled each other a bit too, so maybe brothers? If they weren't in economy with me I'd have sworn they were, like, NFL linebackers or something.
The flight was 100% full so I couldn't move and give them space.
These two men left me both armrests and kept their legs within their seat space. Their parents raised them right. Also proves the lie of manspreading being because men just "need" the space.
I suppressed the urge to ask them if they thought they could bench press me. 😅

It happens all the time. IUD removal typically isn’t too painful and for those that expel on their own I’ve heard it’s not painful at all. Glad the missing IUD mystery is solved!

Ugh, it’s still underway and it’s not going well. It needs its own post but I don’t have the mental capacity to do it right now. I have cried every day for the past three days.

Mine expelled on its own once. I found it in my hand when I wiped after peeing. I never felt it and if it hadn't been on the TP I would never have known.

oh no! I'm so sorry 😞 after last night I was debating running. Looking through old HOA paperwork some of these people have been on the board for 10+ years. So it also seems like they have some sort of hold on the positions...

I had mine come out and didn’t have any idea. I only realized when I went in and found out I was pregnant.
