I read a couple decent books last month. I don't really have any recommendations. I cannot say that the books I liked were that great, but I enjoyed them.
4* No Ordinary Assignment by Jane Ferguson (I enjoyed reading about her career as a war correspondent) Eventide by Kent Haruf (I didn't care for this book as well as the first book, but the parts that followed the first book I absolutely loved).
3* Beyond that, the Sea by Laura Spence-Ash The House on Biscayne Bay by Chanel Cleeton No Exit by Taylor Adams Signal Moon by Kate Quinn Unlocked by John Scalzi
2* Weyward by Emilia Hart
1*/DNF The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (To be fair, I started this book knowing I probably wouldn't like it. My daughter loved the movie and the book so I tried to read it).
House Witch #3 - was cute, was fine Just Stab me Now, Jill Bearup - was fine Mercy, Ian Haramaki - was fine Mary Jane - Jessica Anya Blau - really liked this one! (Vespasia - it's set in our city. it's not amazing, but it is fun to have the random local references) Before They Are Hanged - Joe Abercrombie - really liked it The Great Believers - Rebeca Makkai - Really liked this
Best of the month was 4 stars for The Morningside by Tea Obrecht. Strange but interesting.
Also enjoyed two Katharine Schellman mysteries, Silence in the Library and Death at the Manor (Library was better) and The Thursday Murder Club, which I liked well enough but probably won’t continue the series.
Like well enough but did not love The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo and A Short Walk Through A Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke.
Oddly the big stand out was I Survived Capitalism and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt: Everything I Wish I Never Had to Learn About Money by Madeline Pendleton
which was interesting as a memoir and business book.
My favorites in April were James Percival Everett and The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali. The One by John Marrs, Babel by RF Kuang, A Game of Lies by Clare Mackintosh, and What Happened to Nina? by Dervla McTiernan are the other ones I really liked.

I read Mary Jane a couple years ago and thought it was the perfect summer reading book - it felt like the reading equivalent of a worn in pair of sandals.
